Ok, I've done alot of research on the supercard and I think I've got it figured out..for the most part. Here's the only think I don't understand. I like playing LAN games with my brother and sister...If I flash the DS will this create problems? Also, is it possible to use the superkey without flashing the DS and get the same results...and what are the disadvantages of doing this. Finally, if I flash the DS...it is possible to return it to the previous state...to avoid any problems that may arise with LAN play or other issues. Thanks!

1) flashed ds's cant do lan DOWNLOAD play to other non-flashed ds's, they can do multi card
2) just use the superkey, and be careful about the homebrew you download, though it is very rare that this will b a problem
3)yes you can return it if u really want - using noflashme, but i would still advise to use the superkey, to not void your warranty

So if a non-flashed ds hosts the game...will i be able to do download play?

If I choose to keep the superkey in my ds and don't flash it, will this decrease the battery life? or have any other harmful effects?

Here's the deal. DS games have a Nintendo signature on them, this proves it's a real game, endorsed by nintendo. When you download play on a regular DS it checks for this signature. That's where the problem arises. A DS ROM does not have the signature, so if you try to Download Play it, it freezes. A FLASHED DS does NOT check for the signature, so it will continue on without a problem. Multi-Card play does NOT check for the signature.

Put simply:

Multi-Card
=======
Flashed DS <---> Regular DS
SuperKey DS <---> Regular DS

Okay.

Download Play
==========
Regular DS ---> Flashed DS
Regular DS ---> Superkey DS
Flashed DS ---> Flashed DS
Superkey DS ---> Flashed DS

Okay.

Flashed DS -x-> Regular DS
Flashed DS -x-> Superkey DS
Superkey DS -x-> Regular DS

Not okay.

A Regular DS can host the game and you'll be fine. Having a Superkey or a DS game in the DS slot does draw power, plus in addition to the supercard, it will lessen the battery. Flashing your DS, you only need a DS game or Superkey if you want to close the lid and put the DS into sleep mode. Other than that, you can leave the slot empty to improve battery life.

I believe the best answer is to Flash ALL of your DS's so that you won't have any problems at all (and they can borrow the Supercard).

I don't know much about flashing your DS but I do know that the Superkey or Passcard 3 is basically the equivalant.

I would recommend using the superkey so you don't have to attempt flashing your DS. Especially if you are worried you might screw it up.

I don't think the superkey will drain battery fast since it is only used to trick your DS at start up to let it read DS roms from a flash card. The flash card them selves (in this case the SuperCard) will drain your battery faster since it needs to read and write data to and from the SD card.

Sorry, I don't know anything about download and multiplayer with a single cart. Never tried it with a SuperCard before.

I'm currently using a SuperCard Mini SD myself and I'm really happy with it.

AnalogMan

Ah, that does remind me. Once you boot into the Supercard menu using Superkey, it can be removed before you load your game with no problems.

Are you sure? One time my brother borrowed his friend's unflashed DS to try playing single cart multiplayer.  I hosted Mario Kart from my flashed dslite but it froze on the unflashed ds but when i hosted Advance Wars Dual strike it worked fine.
