Idea for a DS game/port

Wouldn't it be cool if someone ported Counter-Strike for the DS?
Controls would be like Metroid Prime Hunters ala touch screen for aiming.  It would be so cool to play CS 1.6 online on DS.  L button could shoot and R button would put on silencer/zoom in on rifles.  Double tap the touch screen to jump.  Crouching might be controlled through a button on the touch screen that locks crouching or standing, this would be so the ABXY buttons would be barely used except maybe to cycle through weapons.  Maybe a button could be held down for talking with the DS mic.

When I was reading about DS Quake I saw someone say it might be possible to put the Half-life 1 engine on the DS.  Could CS on the DS be possible to pull off?

(sorry about the messed up stylus)

This is just a dream of mine.

Sven Co-Op on DS would be bad ass

well if we started a development team of coders and artists from gbadev forums and this scdev forum it could very easily happen!

Heh, oh it sounds so nice, I have a bunch of ideas for controlling CS on the DS (or any FPS for that matter), but realistically they are having issues with Quake1 currently so CS seems quite a ways away, even though looking at Metroid Prime Hunters it would seem the DS could handle CS 1.6.  I would skee skee all over if it came out though.

what problems is with quake? but if we make a large development team it would be very simple and only take a couple of months

you hoping to much
everyone maybe expecting perfect result
but... w/ that kind of game I think it's imposible
how to make a headshot w/ Sniper if the image are too small to see?

You are really looking for games with less system requirements than the DS has, Quake DS runs fast enough but it is much older than Counter Strike. You'd be better making a RTS really

monaug5

would a 2d fighting game like Mugen be a good game to port to the DS it has 2d colourful graphics!!

You're dreaming.  I'm always very enthusiastic about things I think a DS "could" run, but IMHO the half-life engine is just too complicated.

What we REALLY need is Descent 1/2 on DS.  I'd pay anything.  They're some of the highest-quality FPS games of that era, and are now completely open-source.  All opengl...

Seriously, check it out... http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html

personally I'd like to see warcraft1 or 2, or some sort of real time stategy, I'm a die hard FPS fan first and formost, but I cant beleive no body has made a good Warcraft like RTS yet for the DS.  After that I'd really really like to see a realistic FPS, of course it'd be better if they started from stratch and built it specifically for the DS.

And about the headshots you can do that in MPH, sure its pretty tiny but it works, zooms always there for sniper weapons.  My issue I think is MPH moves too fast along with the screen being so small, or maybe I'm too used to CSS.

Descent is like a plane arcade shooter like game isent it? yea that game wasent that bad, I liked Wing Commander better though.

Blebekblebek

hm for RTS I think DS can handle it, and I will be really happy if they make one ^^.b

i believe a fight Mugen game would be good it would be excellent infact!

Descent 2 is nothing like wing commander.  Wing commander is a space combat sim, descent 2 is more in the Doom/Heretic style, except it's fully 3D, "six degrees of freedom" style, as they say.  So you don't jump, you strafe upwards.  And there's no gravity... anyway, made for some positively EPIC multiplayer, far superior to anything I've played since in terms of intensity and fun.  Wonderful game.

Similar to Forsaken in many ways.

what about beats of rage ds that is unfinished and hasnt been in development for a couple of months i have asked for the source coders who would think about coding that it would be a dream port dont you think?

The problem with some of these ideas is there isn't source code available.  ID Software has released the source code for Doom, Heretic, Hexen, and Quake so that's why they have been ported.  Fortunately Descent 1 & 2 and well as Duke Nukem 3D source codes have been released.  Source codes are also available for the games Shadow Warrior and Rise of the Triad.  If you want Counter-Strike then you better talk to Valve about releasing the (highly modified Quake) source code, or doing the port themselves.
