Can you directly update the any firmware version to 1.62 without installing the firmwares in between? Also all you do is Copy the bin file to the card and run it?

yup, you've got the right idea!  sometimes the update file will even "autorun" =)

For autorun to work, it needs to be put in the root directory./

i thought only .scu files were automatic, and .bin files had to be run manually?  maybe i'm mistaken

Yup, BINs must be run like a game. SCUs autorun when placed in the root,.
