If you go to the official supercard website  http://www.supercard.cn/eng/index.htm  they say the supercard DS will be issued soon. And it will be able to play DS games. But I wonder how it will do against the M3. They also have pictures on the site.[/img]

Good.  I hope it's just a matter of buying the Supercard "passkey".
I'm all for that :)
Since DS ROMS are slated to go up to 1Gbit in size and the Supercard only has 256Mbit of RAM, it'd probably be limited to the little games (which likely the M3 will suffer from this lmitation as well).

sounds like a repackaged PassMe.  which means that they will be releasing a firmware update for the supercard.  What they don't claim is that it will be able to play COMMERCIAL nds roms.  That's what i am curious about.  will it be homebrew/demo only?  either way it's pretty cool!

but, yes, M3, G6 and Supercard will all be limited to nds roms of 256Mbit and smaller... they all use a "dual memory" concept, storing data in flash memory, and then transferring it to 256Mb ram from which the game is actually played.

the m3 can only play games that are 256 too, that sucks cause most ds games will be bigger

I thought that it was homebrew/demo too but if you look at one of the pictures you can see that the nds rom has a title and it is called "cool 104 joker' and that appears to be a commercial nds rom, so if that is right then it can run commercial roms. :)

Are you sure that the NDS M3 won't have a larger memory than the gba version (or possibly be able to directly access the CF/SD to do reads like the NDS dumper does with the GBA MP?) - same goes for the SC, perhaps the NDS kernel that is in the works will be accessing the CF/SD dynamically as well... that would be very nice indeed.

Looking at the menu image, 0042 rom is either Another Code or Nintendogs, and cool104 is definitely 256mbit.... so there is hope if they were testing it with nintendogs...

QuoteIt's a very hard work, but we succeed make Supercard Play NDS Games on NDS. SuperPass Key like PASSME and can make SuperCard play NDS Games. Players can select GBA or NDS games in the same menu. SuperPass will issued soon.
Sounds like a repackaged and reprogrammed PassMe that intercepts calls to the ds cart and changes them (hence clean roms should work) - although I have a passme and am hoping the patches are on the SC software side instead...

I wonder what that cable at the back of the DS is plugged into...

plflorence

they actually wrote commercial roms in the chinese version of the site.....
dunno why they didn't state that in the english version of the site...

rocky

Looking at their website it sounds like you just need to buy the superpass and not another supercard.

cory1492

hmm, actually the babel translation says quite alot... kinda odd that the images they provide can be seen on the ensata emu though...

sneef

and the chinese site says that the Superpass (passthrough device) will not cost more than 100 Yuan (about 12 U.S. dollars).

Of course, this is the price within china, but that's a good deal.  I hope it's nothing more than a mass-produced passme, since i already have my passme.

heh.

Well, I wouldn't worry about the whole 256 Mb thing. After all, the only game I know of right now that goes over that (by around 100 Mbits) is Meteos. Otherwise, all the others (Mario64, Goldeneye, Cool 104 Joker & Setline, Daigasso! Band Brothers, et al) are within that constraint... trust me, I've downloaded them all!

Bummer is that most-likely Squeenix's RPGs will exceed the 256 Mb barrier. Their 3 and 4 CD PS games and the mega-huge Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories showed their disregard to conventions on game sizes!

Neither would I, the movie player (at least used to when it works) is able to play movies bigger than 256mbit, no? Direct access to all assets on the SD/CF should allow for any size DS rom.

I suspect many of the better upcoming DS titles will push the limits of the hardware capacity, and that most of the games for DS so far are just programmers getting used to a new system.

Still think its kinda odd that all the images are stuff that works in the various emulators wrather than something unique that cant be seen on emulator.

alias_neo

Well if you remember GBA's pattern, a lot of games started out as 32m and 64m (4 and 8mb) but then later we started seeing 128m games increasing and even some great 256m titles have been released recently. So i really would not be celebrating as of yet.

Although $12 is really not a bad deal. Now if only people didnt have to worry about shipping

stupid2ass

The passme looked a little dodgy to me (i.e. looks ghetto).
If they can sell this for around $25 shipped, consider me a consumer/sucker :)
