Did you check out bolo? It fills your requirements perfectly.

Wraggster gave me the go ahead to get the poll ready for him to post.  I'll post a link to it as soon as it's up.

It's ok for me to copy and paste your post right BitBlt?  I'll give credit to you of course, and provide a link to the original.  I was planning on recapping all the links posted here so far as well.  Just so people don't post stuff that's already been thought of.

Interesting. I didn't know about the C&C DS project. This project would be classified as a homebrew remake not a game port.  It doesn't use the origianl C&C source code.  A remake simulates the game play of a game with new code. I don't expect C&C DS project to be playable anytime soon.  Still, very cool stuff.

Bolo looks like it would port fine.

Sure.

Yeah, a really mediocre photoshopping job, but you can see the general graphics quality of Descent 2.  Also an idea how the HUD might look, though it would need the changes I mention in my post.

Aha!  Here's a much better picture.  This is a particularly detailed shot.

As you can see, nowhere near the detail of Hunters.

Also, the entire game minus movie assets is under 64 megabytes, easy.

Sorry, there wasn't any way for me to make it an actual poll like this one.  It's more like a open-source resouce for coders, lol.  I'm going to keep track of what people vote for though.

@Bitblt:  I forgot how long the first post was, lol.  With your post and the list of games it would've push alot off the front page, so I had to sum it up.

I think supertux would be awsome on the DS its all opensource so you can cange everything.  it was made for tons of other systems like the gamecube and PSP.
Here is the supertux site http://supertux.berlios.de/

heres the portable ones http://supertux.berlios.de/wiki/index.php/SuperTux_Portable at the very bottom they show a picture of it running in GBA mode but I tried and its not anything but a tux that you can move

Hi,

I vote for  two games:

(1) X-com 1, 2 or 3

(2) Midnight Resistant:

Please remember that the joystick for this game is 8-way Rotary. I trust that only the touch screen of ds can emulate it well.

Yes, Supertux would be a good port.  Rocky and I have talked about this in the past . . .

Supertux on the DS?

Quote from: "birdman505"Duke Nukem 3D would be pretty sweet, it would be easy to use with the stylus since you can only aim left and right really.  Would bring back some memories.
Wrong, Duke Nukem 3D is NOT doom/wolfenstein, you are completely free to aim up and down in Duke and you will most CERTAINLY not hit a target if you are not aimed at it correctly on both the x and y axis and not just the x like in the earlier first gen FPSes, KNOW YOUR GAMES.
QuoteHow would a screenshot of an existing game look if it was reduced down to 256x192 resolution? Would it be easy to reduce the artwork?

How much game content does the game have? Does the game take up much more than ~64MB when installed?

Does the game lend well to being played with a touchscreen and gamepad? Games that require lots of keyboard commands might not work well.

Does the game have attributes that would work well (or better) with dual screens?

What are the minimum requirements for the game? Would the game run on a Pentium 90 with a basic 3D video card? Does the game look much better than Metriod Prime?

Does the game rely heavily on DirectX or some other proprietary API? It's best if the game code has been designed to be cross platform, or DOS based, or built on OpenGL or SDL.
As far as I know rRootage and Parsec47 pass all but one of those, they both have lowres modes that would be easier to run on the DS's screens but all of the ABA games are made in the D programming language (an extension of C) if I remember correctly.

Is duke nukem 3d open-source?  no?  Then vote for Descent instead, since it owns your soul.

The ATOMIC edition is open source. Meaning the WATERED DOWN, NO BLOOD, NO NUDITY version is open source.

Still, any Duke is better than no Duke ;)

Any Descent is better than any Duke! >_>
