Quote from: "dai_uk"well I cant play mario DS - I just cant use the touch screen and the dpad is hopeless - it needs analogue.

I know other people who play it fine !

still I find starfox works great - cant imagine it being as slick without the stylus - weird eh! guess it's different for different people!

I beat Mario64 DS 100% while using the DPAD and it played just fine.

i remember reading a long time ago that you could either control link with the D-pad -or- touch the screen to control the fairy and link follows it

we still have hope

that's what i thought i remembered too, something like that anyway...

that the stylus could lead link (i guess via the fairy) or the D-Pad could control him directly.  I couldn't remember where I saw it though.

i think i heard it sometime around the first trailer was released

Sort of agree with the OP here that placing the visual part of the game on the bottom screen is a bad idea.

The top screen is more likely to be completely unscathed and in pristine condition, is not blocked by the player's hand, and - in some cases - is easier to look at without craning my neck.

Why can't the map be on the bottom screen with the nice crisp visuals to be actually seen on the top?

I doubt that would change much since movement still could be done with the touch screen (just not pressing on the 3d representation of the world), and it would also make it much easier to write stuff on the map since they won't feel the urge to add slow transition effects as the map moves from the top to the bottom screen.

Besides, many people don't like using the touch screen as the only way to control a game, since they don't want to turn it into swiss cheese. (That can happen very quickly!)

If they do it right they should let players choose between the map being on the top or bottom.

Although... Animal Crossing works fine :)
The only difference is that LOZ is a much more action oriented game so a big hand blocking the screen is more of a problem.

Carnivean

...How is this a surprise? They advertise the system for the innovativeness - if they didn't make it use the stylus it'd be admitting it's not always needed! :P

I agree, I mean I think every WII game will get the same treatment, it's a bit like wanting to play arcade games because the cabinet has a cool feature - I.E. life size Car RidgeRacer !!

I love the DS it is so much more interesting due to the touch screen, sometimes it works amazinlgy well other times not.

Just heard settlers is comming out on DS - I hope it has wifi internet play :-)

I remember reading that Nintendo tries to ensure that every game they publish has a button alternative to touchscreen controls and lefty/righty modes.

Starfox doesn't do this, and I still haven't found a button that does the same thing as the stored item button on the touch screen in New Super Mario Bros., but other than that they've don't pretty well at accessibility.
