MiniSD File Corruption

Hi, I couldn't get a sufficient answer to this problem, so I am reposting it:

I got a problem with my mini sd (kingmax, 1gb)...once I put more than a few games on there, around 8, weird ASCII characters show up once I put it in the DS, and I end up having to reformat (FAT, obviously)...

Does this mean I need to buy a new SD, even though when I put only a few games on there, everything works just fine and I can play all the games.

Is this a problem related to the SD cards or the SuperCard Mini SD?

Any help would be deeply appreciated...

Thanks!

I really hate to single you out, and I hate to spam topics, but too many people are posting questions in the WRONG FORUM.   This forum is for general Supercard discussion.  The help forum is here:

Announcement: This is not the help forum.

At any rate, I would try putting a large number of media files on your SD card with your PC.  Then see if you PC can read all the files.  If your PC has trouble reading all the files, then your SD card is bad.

No problem, it appears I did indeed post it in the wrong topic thread, sorry about that...

There's no problem when I put a lot of files on there using my PC, it can still read them just fine, just once I pop it into the DS, it gets corrupted.

I would definitely recommend trying another miniSD if possible.  It could also be a small problem with your SC miniSD slot.  Try putting a small bit of papper in with the miniSD to apply slight pressure.

I tried the paper thing (took me a while to get it right), but no change, everything is fine as long as I don't put more than 7,8 games on there, otherwise it is corrupted again and I have to FAT reformat...

anybody, any idea what's wrong, otherwise I will just try another SD...

thank you for the answers so far though, appreciate it.

Sounds kinda like a problem I have with a cheap (Chinese) USB flash drive...it's fine for a low number of files, but as soon as I put more than 20 / 30 files on it, the whole drive corrupts (I end up with thousands of folders, named "00000000.000").

Do the strange ascii characters only appear in the SuperCard menu, or do they show up in Windows too?  If it's only in the menu, it could be that the SC is having a hard time with your miniSD card.

Try formatting it with 64k clusters;
Open a command window (Start -> Run -> "cmd" (without quotes).
type "format ?: /FS:FAT /A:64k" (where ? is the drive letter)
[ignore the compatibility wotnot, and continue with the format]

See if that makes any difference...it probably won't, but it's worth a try ;-)

Possible solution:
Reformat your card again and use Total Commander to transfer files from PC to memory card.

Why?:
Some time ago, I upgraded from SD to mini SD and I had problem with corrupted files. Sometimes SuperCard didn't see them or showed messed up names and strange things happened, for example: loading over 90 MB to SuperCard's RAM (it was Animal Crossing – it's really 32MB).
After some experiments I discovered that Windows corrupted those files, so I just used Total Commander instead. Works like a charm.

Hope that's it.

Hey,

i have EXACTLY the same Problem with my SCLite and MicroSD Card. When i put too many files on it(about 8) and put it in my DS, i only see nonsense Letter, an then afterwards i see them too on my pc.

Do you have an solution already? Could it be the cardreader? I've got one from equip....

Totalcommander didnt work for me as I'm using it allways...

I'll have to try the Format thing.....

Hope somesone can help

hey,

i got it perfectly working now.

Solution: Throw your card-reader away!

I just baught yesterday a new one, an it works absolutly perfect!

My old card-reader was only USB1.1, an I wanted faster tranfer, that was the reason i had to get a new one. And surprisingly no problems anymore...

Happy greetings
