I'll say this right now, I do not have any NDS coding experience, don't get your hopes up if you like this idea. I just like saying ideas cause if I don't, I always wonder if they're good or not.

Kay, here it is.

My idea is one that mimics some key elements of Pictochat, please be familiar with it before continuing to read.

This is a homebrew program that requires being able to draw on the screen and save files to the media card. The main idea is to write notes to youself and save them to be viewed/editted later. What makes it different is you write with the stylus, not with a keyboard. Ideal for quick notes, a phone number, a name, anything you may need to write to yourself but you have no paper and pen around.

Basically how it works is you have most of the bottom screen to right on, save a toolbar along the bottom that holds buttons such as Pen, Eraser, Color, Scroll Up, Scroll Down (also preformed with DS Buttons), Next Page, Save, and Load.

You write your message on the bottom screen until there is no more room, then you press Next Page to send what you've already written to the top screen, leaving you a fresh new blank page on the bottom screen. When you have sent the last page to the top screen, so that your entire note is on the top screen (seperated into pages) you can save your note. This is where my unique idea comes in.

The format of the save is an animated GIF file, each frame of the GIF being a page of your note. Ideally the interval between frames should be adjustable, but 6~7 seconds should surfice. When this GIF is loaded into the homebrew program via the Load option, you are shown all the pages seperated. You can even Scroll Up, causing pages to move to the bottom screen for editing. When the GIF is viewed on a PC/Mac or in something like DS Organize, it's simply an animated image showing 1 page at a time, looping.

I chose a GIF because when having many pages which are most easily stored as images, I would like 1 file to be created, not a folder with 1 image per page resulting in 10 files for one note.

So my question to you is, who here likes the idea of being able to jot quick handwritten notes on the DS, stored in an easily managable and viewable filetype like an animated GIF?

(PS. Should a developer like this, feel free and use it to your hearts content, I need no credit or anything. Feel free to throw an extra something in like a popup keyboard similar to pictochat for both text and handwriting modes (of course storing as a picture makes text uneditable without completely erasing and rewriting, the application of such a feature is only for those with bad handwritting).

not sure about handwritten bla , but it did stand out that if delay was small it could be another way to do a form of pictomation

AnalogMan

Yes, I suppose it could, if you were given the same dimension and brush width as in Pictochat.

Sounds like a great idea. You should foreward it to Dragonminded and see if he could do something like it for DSOrganize.

I'd rather not seeing as how he's putting DSO on hold, plus I didn't really want to bug any developers and seem like I was free loading. But you guys can post this in any forums you want, I don't mind. Just please, for the love of all that is Nintendo, TELL me if someone makes this xP
