I just bought a 2gb micro sd card off ebay and I try putting it in my sd reader built into my HP laptop and it does nothing. The reading light on the laptop lights up but then goes dark and doesnt work.  If I put it in my external card reader it does work. so I dont know whats wrong.  I am thinking its a fake sd card becuase the sticker on the back isnt exactly the same as my 1gb card.  The card is a sandisk.  this one

Is their an update I can get for my reader?  I realy dont know whats wrong

i have a 2gb mini sd that does the same thing in my hp laptop's built in digital media reader. i just use my usb adapter instead.

Okay so maybe I dont have a fake card.  maybe its a driver problem?
I cant use my memory card reader its to much work. it gets in the way of my mouse.  where did you get your memory card?

richardv

Many memory card readers are designed to only read up to a certain capacity card. I don't think a driver will fix this fact.

Maybe you should get one of those usb extender thingys with alot more ports.  That way it woudln't get in the way of your mouse?

rocky

I have an extender but thats to much work.  I want it for when Im not at home like in the car

My laptop was new in october last year I think they would have added 2GB support.

Do you mean the manufacturing date was last year, or you purchased it last year?  There is a difference. Regardless there might be some kind of compatibility issue with your SD reader.

rocky, before you buy anything, I would recommend taking the time (or work it takes) to make sure your card
is working properly with a usb reader. I know it is in the way but why waste money. just in case it is a fake
(hopefully it is not)?

rocky

Well I already have a few other SD card readers and they all work except the one built in.  And richardv I actualy bought that exact same card reader on ebay on friday.
Bitblt:  I guess your right I never thought of that.  I did buy the laptop in october but yea it was prabaly made a year before that.

richardv

Well actually it was a microsd reader (which saves you a step) but I get the idea. Better if things just work.

I SERIOUSLY recommend to ANYONE with microSD .. Get the Sandisk Mobility 5 in 1 reader.  It's $20, but handles EVERY SD card type (including micro) with NO adapters!  It's been a real lifesaver.

I think the point of this thread is being misconstrued by a few people. The problem is, HP has a built in card reader into their computers that wont read 2G cards.

Can this be solved with a new driver or a little tweaking? I have the exact same computer and tried and failed to fix it, good luck.
