I am seriously thinking about getting an xbox360 now along with hopefully a wii at launch.  I was just wondering if anyone here currently owns a 360 and if they can give me their impressions on it.  Is it worth the $400?  Any particular games definitely worth the $60 price tag?  I saw that Project Gotham and Perfect Dark are now only $30 so I was thinking of getting them when I pick up the system.

Any comments/suggestions are appreciated.

im just saying that i think u should get the Wii instead of the 360, because:

1. Low Price
2. better games  (my opinion)
3. new controller/new gameplay
4. ZELDA/MARIO
5. finally gettin internet connection

Well thats my opinion do what you want.

SmashAdams

He said he was getting both.

Oblivion is worth it. I've neard mixed things from Dead Rising, mainly good.

hahaha i gues i missed that. im stupid.

Yea, I definitely plan on getting a Wii at launch, mainly for the Virtual Console and a few select games.  I am still quite skeptical about the Wii as I can really see them trying to do too much with the new innovative controller much like they're doing with the stylus on the DS (see Star Fox and the new Zelda).

Quite truthfully, I don't know if I want to have to aim the controller at the TV everytime I want to shoot an arrow or cast my line to fish.  It might be a cool novelty at first, but I can see it getting old after playing it for 50-60 hours.

Just my 2 cents about the Wii.

one word. zelda.

i'd put off on the 360 till the price drops. i read somewhere the psp is ganna have a price drop for the holiday season, 150 instead of 200 if you don't already have one of those babes.

It really depends on what type of games you're into.  Oblivion is amazing and will eat more hours of your life then is probably healthy, if you're into RPG's (even some people who aren't into them like this game).  If you like racing games Project Gotham Racing is a blast.  Ghost Recon is an absolutely amazing shooter for multiplayer... single player is good, but multiplayer will keep you playing for a long time.

Those are the most notable games that I can come up with off the top of my head.  Gears of War is right around the corner though... I'm already preordering that one.

If EBgames would ever start allowing preorders on it, I'd also be preordering my shiny new nintendo console...  I suppose that shall have to wait a bit longer though.

ShadowFalls

lol the controller will not be like the original NES's light gun. It operates wirelessly with a built-in gyroscope. You could be fishing or shooting an arrow with your back to the TV if you want, under the leg or even upside down, though it would be pretty hard to see what you are doing :)

i have had a 360 since launch, and you cant deny the quality of the games, however xbox live is full of immature idiots and the games are way too expensive. I havent played it for over 6 months. I bought a new dual core amd pc and the graphics are easily as good as the 360 and the games are way cheaper. In myv opinion the best thing for gaming is the pc, although without an internet connection its crap.

Well, I just ordered a wired 360 controller for (I know, it makes no difference) off of amazon for $30.  I am gonna mess around with it with emulators and see how much I really like the controller before I decide to make the $400+ plunge for the system and a game or two.

Atleast I'll be able to play smash bros for N64 online now without having to use my old crappy gravis gamepad.

Viva la Wii!!!

I too have had a 360 since launch, and for the first few months didnt have any games I really wanted to buy.
I think there are more interesting games starting to be released now but in general I think the games look great and run smoothly but are not truly ground breaking (Go nintendo!)
Dead Raising and Saints Row are both great and fun games.

With regards to expensive games, seeing as you are on the Supercard site I am assuming you are not adverse to the odd bit of "game evaluation". This is possible with the 360 and helps keeps the cost down after the initial pocket gutting outlay, although you'll need a dual layer burner and a stack of DL-DVDr's.

Finally to get the most out of the console you really do need a HDTV. I played at home on a regular tv and it was pretty terrible espcaially any text. At work we have a nice 48" HDTV and its sooooo much prettier.

I have it.  But here are things to consider if it's worth the purchase:

Pro:
HD graphics
..umm, that's it.

Con:
-Too pricey.  But considering that the core is only 50 bucks more than the Wii at lunch, i'd get this instead.

-Games are similar, if not ports of what's already being offered on the xbox

-initial launch had some overheating issues.  not sure if the new batch has been cleared of that.

-did I mention the price?  damn!

But regardless of the Cons that I pointed out...I bought one anyway.  Why?  Cause it's moddable.  And to be honest, I haven't touched the 360 in about two weeks.  Though I did play my original xbox late wednesday to do some tomb raiding.

*edit*

I just need to make mention that I myself will be buying the Wii.  I know.  Not the same next-gen graphics that the newer systems offer, but i'm all for the next-gen gameplay!

Choose wisely!

"oblivion is worth it"

I've played the superior PC version, and I still say it's not worth it, regardless of platform.  There's no reward for any advancement, monsters are always at a certain strength relative to yours.  When you get past X level, everything of Y level disappears and suddenly there's only Z level monsters.  So, crabs disappear, suddenly there's wolves.  Then they're gone, and there's mountain lions.  And so it goes.  It's so boring and you feel at the end of the day that you haven't made any progress.  If your idea of a good time is a game that never gets harder or easier and life/death actions that need to be repeated dozens of times are completely random even at the highest skill level, Oblivion is your game.

With the PC version, you can download mods like "Random Oblivion"... this turns it into a REAL rpg world, or at least a lot closer to it imo.  All monsters are at all levels, so it depends on where you go in the game world as to what monsters you'll encounter.  This alone makes the game a thousand times better and so much more immersive.  You won't find any mods for the X360 version though.  Only minor patches that don't do anything for gameplay, and if you want to pay like $5 to buy a single pair of differently-skinned armor, WHICH HAS NO EFFECT ON GAMEPLAY AND YOU NEVER EVEN SEE IT UNLESS YOU DIE, that's the only option.

Xbox 360, right now, has no games that aren't just an existing game with graphics on par with what a PC does.  Xbox 360 bundle, 4 controllers, and a game = $600 plus tax.  You can buy a state-of-the-art graphics card and fast CPU for that price, and still get the innumerable advantages that come with PC gaming, like 64-person multiplayer and, more importantly, mods that can make even a bad game into a good one.

MS has said that it will pay for repairs to early batch 360's and I think the overheating issue has been adressed.

The 360 does have some exclusive games (although I'm not to up on pc games)
Dead Raising, Kameo, Table Tennis, St. Row, Perfect Dark are all 360 only games which are great.
Also as little as I use it Xbox-live is also very good.

In the end I think you'll always find games you'll like on any system. Its quite hard to say is it worth it as thats personal taste.
As I said before I've played it less than 10 hours since I got mine at launch (although thats proably not accurate anymore with Dead Raising) but I dont regret buying it (the full pack with extra controllers and chargers and camera and stuff). It gets daily use at the office (last time I checked it had like 18 profiles).
But then I like collecting consoles and fully intend on getting a Wii and PS3.

The interesting thing is, of all the consoles I have this is the only one I havent modded yet (and I have a psp with UP!) even though its relatively painless to do.
For some reason I've only been buying orginal games, maybe its because there are only a few games I really want or this is the first console I've bought since being employed!

everyone who has an xbox360 should have geometry wars.  That thing is one of the best games on there and is only 5$.  that is one of the best deals for xbox360.
