Turned off my DS as usual after a quick game or two. The next time I turn it on, the CF card is seemingly blank. On several connections and reconnections of the card into my PC it seems something's wrong. I ran scandisk and recovered the whole card in the filenXXXX.chk format.

Obviously by file size I can tell what are roms from saves but the save files could be anything. Are there any game/save manager type utilities that can identify the save files? Been opening them up in a hex editor so far searching for names with some success.

Either way, lesson learned in data backup
