Yes, I've seen some ROMs do this if they are not patched with the latest v2.56 software. Verify you are running the correct version by looking at the window title bar. Physically delete the old ROMs from your supercard (don't just overwrite them) and try again with v2.56 patcher.

Some ROMs will display a white screen for 5-10 seconds before starting.

You can also download the patcher and firmware from this very site.  Click Downloads in the top left menu.

Are there any compatibility issues with this? Coz I've heard that some SC crashed if they used 1.63

As far as I know there are no issues.  I removed the files causing the problems from the downloads section a while ago and replaced them with the working revisions.
