I'm curious about what other people think. From what I can tell the GBA is slowing down to a stop soon but I have no idea if the DSlite is here to stay for another two years or ten. I’m sure that most of you think that’s a good thing but I’m not sure, I’m kinda sad to see the GBA be “replaced” by the DS. I think "developer's system" really suits the DS these days, it and Nintendo itself have become quite the innovators. With Nintendo’s past and the DS’s capability I expected it to be just another port for rehashing GBA games and SNES games but instead it looks like they might be trying to leave that behind with GBA itself. I’m pretty sure I’m ganna miss those rehashed titles; there were some really awesome ones, Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls comes to mind… but hey, now I’ve got Final Fantasy III to look forward to.

Looking at just those two games, Final Fantasy’s evolution gets a little confusing for me. Its two 8 bit NES games updated to 16 bit SNES graphics, together. Its an 8 bit game updated to 3D graphics with cut scenes. The DS games themselves seem to be getting better and better so fast, I just wonder where things are headed. Is it all just ganna peak to the point where the DS’s hardware itself isn’t good enough and they have to release a Heavy DS?

The GBA Micro was a mistake.  It's cute, but it should've been released much sooner.  The DS, I believe is here to stay.  Tons of games that are good.  I only got the PSP due to it's emulation capabilities, but I found myself only playing Nintendo based games off it.

And wouldn't you know it, the same games and emulators that run on the PSP are now able to run on the DS as well.  Top it off with really unique and better playing games coming out for the DS and i'm sold!

Here in NZ, the price between the GBM and NDS is very small [20% at most]. It makes no sense to get the former.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

The fact that GBA/SP/micro technology has had continued success for half a decade is a spectacular achievement.  Nintendo has dominated the handheld gaming industry for more than 15 years and I see no signs of it loosing its foothold anytime soon. With the overwhelming popularity of the Nintendo DS I think the GBA is ready for retirement. It's time to move forward people. I guarantee Nintendo is already working on it's next (DS II) generation of handhelds. I think this year is going to be the peak year for DS, and I expect it's popularity (and game releases) to ramp down over the next 4 years. Just like the GB/GBC/GBA the DS will have special interest groups for decades to come.
