Holy crap....Just called gamestop, wii preorders start tommorow.  Their only getting 18 units.  I live on the edge of Ohio State (and go there, GO BUCKS w00t) and he said i better be there a couple hours early.  I thought nintendo was all about having enough of these things.  My buddy manages a best buy and he told me their not getting much either.  What the hell is going on.

Guess im setting the clock for 730 and sitting my butt outside there, until my friend comes to relieve me at 9 so i can go to class....I have an exam tommorow too...crap....

My local Gamestop is getting 18 as well.  So much for "ample supply".  Best be in line early.

the manager at the Gamestop down the street told me that they are only guaranteeing 18 units for preorder, but they may have a lot more on release date.  They don't want a repeat of the PS2 launch, where apparently people didnt get a unit on release date even though they had preordered, and there were nasty outbreaks of violence.

I am so happy that I happen to have friday off this week!  I will be waiting in front of the store an hour before opening playing DSLite...

Do you guys think an hour is early enough in advance?  I've never waited in line for release date or preorder, so i have no idea.. what do you think?

I preordered twilight princess already too.. :)

ok quick update
First and foremost, i was not called, at all, not yesterday not today.  Someone should really call gamestop on that and yell.

I got up at 7am walked down to EBgames with my lawn chair and schoolbooks.  Got there, NOONE IN LINE i was like...wow i feel like a nerd, ive never done this before.  I look at panera nextdoor and am waved at.  Four people ahead of me, eating bagels.  Went inside till about 8am when someone refused to go inside (its 22 degrees here, with a windchill warning) so we headed outside.  Broke out the ds and played multiplayer mariokart....at 9am the guy gets there, we all get up thinking hell let us inside.  Nope, locks the door behind him in this freezing weather.  Anyway at precisely 10am he takes preorders.  I ask him, is it a midnight launch, he said if nintendo magicaly gets more units then yes otherwise no.  I said do i have to wait in line or do i guarantee my fifth spot.  He said, well ure guaranteed a system but u still have to wait in line.

I look at the piece of paper saying this guarantees ure spot in line, not a system.  So i said ok, so is there order to this.  He said no everyone who preorders has to fight over them.  I was like....woah one sec....so the 40th person (40 people showed up) has the same chance as me.  After catching his breathe (this guy was ginormous) he said no we only sold 18 of them, ure guaranteed a system at launch but u gotta be there.

That is the night of the OSU/michigan game.  If its a midnight launch Ill most likely be partying, but i can always make a stop at ebgames and bring home my wii....semihammered....

Hopefully its not a next day launch or im gonna be feeling aweful when i go get my system, but ill be there....rain or shine or hangover!

Got on line at about 9:20 for a 10 AM opening.  There were probably about 40 people ahead of me.  This EB Games ended up having an allocation of only 30.  At about 9:45, a guy passed a sign-in sheet down the line with the first 30 people signing.  So I didn't get it.  No biggie.  I was hoping to put my name on a list for a second allocation, but they were'nt doing that.  I'm sure I'll get it from somebody somewhere.

I pre-ordered mine at toys'r'us since august. Can't wait to get it.

i was first person in line at my local gamestop, and the manager said that the preorder guarantees us our spot (in sequential order) on launch date..  woo hoo!

I showed up at about 7 for a 10AM opening to find no one there. So I waited in the car until about 9:30 and stood in front of the store, only to have people start showing at 9:45-ish. There was 9 of us when the store opened. Our store had 18 slots, 4 reserved for employees. I found out later they had filled ALL the slots within an hour of opening. I guess it pays to live in the boonies since you don't have that many diehard fans willing to camp out xD

4 of the 18 slots reserved for employees?  that sucks..

at my local store, they only had one employee reservation and it wasn't part of the 18.

What is wii going to be geared towards agewise? Right now I have an xbox, which has plenty of games my 7yr daughter can play. I wonder if the controls can be managed by children? Anyone have kids that have tried it out?

sneef

nobody has tried it out (unless they are industry insiders).. but bottom line is that it is geared towards everyone, with a special emphasis on those who have never gamed before, so with that in mind, I think it will be ideal for young children.

:)

That sounds good. The onl thing i dislike about xbox, wii, etc.. is that it is not portable.

sparky930

I got to my local EB games at around 9:30.  There were already 16 people in line before me and my store only had allocations for 8.

Right now I am kinda glad I didn't get a preorder.  After the semi frequent DS Lite problems maybe it's better to wait awhile before getting the Wii.  They're gonna be pumping those things out as fast as possible so I kinda doubt quality control is top priority right now.

Actually...

Now what would be sweet, is if your save games were stored on thw Wiimote in some fashion (a Nintendo proprietary memory card or an SD card insertable into the Wiimote) so all you need to do is bring your Wiimote and your Mii avatar and save games can go with you.
