wow can't get in over at gbatemp I guess they finally posted their DS-X review.

What do you guys think about that DS-X thing? I would like the ability to do download play with all games, but right now I'm thinking I'll just be sticking to the SC. I have a SCmini which is in the process of being sold, and then I'm planning to buy the SCLite right away.

With the DS-X and Slot1 solutions in general, I have a feeling that once again, good things will come to those who wait. The SCLite/M3Lite/G6L/EZ4LDeluxe represent the peak of Slot2 evolution, so I think that's an ok place to be for a while yet.

My personal opinion is that even with all those cool features 125$ is way too much for a 512MB card.  How do you use the media functions if you can't put anything on there?

Shit. $125???? they're joking right. I dont kare how cool the thing sounds, I'm not dropping that much money on something that does what my SC is already doing. Especially with only 512MB of space. Pass  :?

in practical use, the big advantage you get is ds to ds download play. there's some other possible fringe benefits like DS to GBA linking if you have a traditional GBA flashcart.

But you give up soft reset, which for some reason really bugs me.

And there's capacity, which really only matters if you like to watch Star Trek episodes at your desk (guilty).

eventually I'll probably fal to the Slot1 sword, but so far ... nah.

I did read the review and it's quite impressive. No flashcart to date has ever achieved this level of completeness and breack-trough features and got them right from day 1.
Obviously the high price and the limited amount of memory are the biggest cons. I personally would forgive the step price in favor of an higher storage capacity, like the option to stick a micro in there for example.
I can say from experience, that even if you think that you have enough storage capacity now( and let's face it , 512MB ain't even that much right now for most of us) in pratically no time you'll feel outdated.
I remember when I got my Flash 2 Advance 256Mb pro a few years back and I thought that I had a lot of space.......now there are single GBA games bigger than that !
I mean without the option to upgrade the memory, I would not commit to buy anything these days.

I like the LED lights that it has and the perfect rom compatibility. :D

I don't like the high price and only 512MB of space. :(

well, the one pokemon game didn't work, and theyre guessing its because it has a 4mbit EEPROM save, while the DS-X only has 2mbit EEPROM available. So, what happens if the developers get wind of this and adopt a 4mbit EEPROM as the standard save method on new commercial releases.

I don't know. That might not be very likely to happen, but I guess I'm just cautious when it comes to latest greatest overnight sensations. If no serious quirks have shown up with this thing after a few months, then I'll start looking at it.

Some of you might have read my "There is no point in buying the DS-Xtreme!" Post on the maxconsole.net forums(http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=30638). My main point was simply that the DS-X does not do anything that slot 2 solution can't do. My supercard lite can and has played EVERY NDS game that has came out so far (Yes, I am crazy! I have beat or at least played every NDS game so far).

No patching seems nice, but I couldn't care less, since I am certain in the near future Supercard is going to make a slot 1 solution that is going to be better and cheaper than it. In this business, being the first to do something always end up sucking. A bigger and richer company will just use your idea, improve it and sell it for cheaper. Supercard has been the most successful in doing that so far. Thus I am going to wait for Supercard's slot one solution. It's going to be better and cheaper just like always.

Kvn.
Edit: PS Who the hell cares about Download Play! You aint a friend if your friends who have a DS does not have a flashcart! XD I bought like 5 SC lite for my friends already so to me that whole big deal with the Download Play thing is pointless. As for the LEDs, the idea was cool at first, but if you think about it, its just a great way to waste battery??

I agree. You can have a DSLink with a 2GB TF for about the same price. I might consider getting a DS-X if they come out with a 1GB version and sell it for like $80.  For now I'm happy with my DSLink and the only real advantage I see with DS-X is no patching and better homebrew support.  I hope homebrew support gets better with DSLink soon.

Hey Kev, I'm your friend. And is it turns out, I just sold my SCmini. I sure could use a new SCLite right now.

mwingboy

i think they praise it a little too much in their review...."only 1 game not working," yet they havent tested all games. And if snezzids doesnt work than how do we know the homebrew compatibility is soo great. way too expensive i say...g6 lite could do the job for cheaper

snakeslashro

OMG!! I ordered this!! I wanted to play pokemon pearl but it looks like it dosent work yet =(

sonicwind

its true but they are going to twist it less than maxconsole which has nothing bad to say about divineo and such.
