It's more 'morally dubious' due to it's matrix structure, but since no actual money is involved it's technically not illegal.  The best kind of legal.

I'd still like this to be closed, though, and here's why; these schemes cause some people to become parasitic towards others, the system is very unreliable (hard to prove that you have credit worth reimbursement, deliberately designed so this is so), it's exponential, and so therefore it's mathmatically impossible that everybody gets an iPod/DS/whatever, as the number of users is far higher than the products and the source if new users is very dry.  They make their money from half-completed entries.
