it looks like this:
enable_network_on_boot="YES"

and i think i put all my network settings in the correctly

Vasco

/etc/rc.conf does not exist on your system - see /etc/rc.defaults
not configuring network:
enable_network_on_boot is set to "no"

I get this message when i run DSLinux, but if i run links, it says it cant connect to the host cause there arent connections... duh, but how do i put these to work ?

PS:. I made some changes on the Rc.defaults like putting YES on enable_network_on_boot, and put 1 on Wfc Connection and some other stuff but now it just says Not found many times and says i still dont have /etc/rc.conf

Sonny_Jim

Classic case of RTFM?  If you read rc.defaults it asks you to cp /etc/rc.defaults /etc/rc.conf and to THEN edit /etc/rc.conf.

and i cant get the rc.conf    please explain better...

Hiya, sorry, yes, the original write-up was a bit brief - I guess I wasn't originally planning to do a tutorial, but that's how its ended up as I've highly updated it now - so you might want to have a re-read.

You won't be able to find any host until you've put all the settings into /etc/rc.conf

If you don't know what all your manual network settings are and can't find them, you're going to have a problem.  You need to be able to configure the network settings manually, which means needing to know the above numbers, etc.

You probably did -- my bad -- see the edited tutorial, especially the bit about line-ends and not using Windows' notepad or wordpad to edit the file, else it messes it up.  SORRY!

Please see the edited tutorial.  You don't edit rc.defaults, you copy it
to rc.conf, and then edit rc.conf.

Although automatically using the network settings from the NDS's "WFC Connection Settings" by changing wfc_config="1" sounds neat, for many people it just doesn't work!  It didn't for me, at least, not reliably.  The only way I got network working under DS Linux reliably, such that it works EVERY time, was to do all the settings manually.

Ah, but unfortunately, the text in rc.defaults tells you to copy the file to the wrong location though, oops.  :?

It's just-

cp /etc/rc.defaults /etc/rc.conf

...as you said, and then...

nano /etc/rc.conf

...to edit it.   :D

Thanks for the great tutorial jewelie!

Also, I can say that I never got the WFC settings to work in dslinux either.  I had to put in everything manually.

Is nano included with dslinux now?  If so that's cool.  vi aggravates me.

You sure?  If this is the case I'll get it changed.  What was the 'wrong' location?  It should be /etc/rc.conf

Yes, thank-goodness, nano is included as well.   8)   I'd cry if I had to use vi; I've NEVER managed to get on with it, can never get used to it, can never remember how to do even the most basic of things... even though I've had a good couple of decades to have gotten around to learning it.    My 'NIX nerd friends are truely disgusted when they find out I don't know vi.

There's actually lots of extras included in that dslinux-ram build, including most of the bsdgames.  Try entering each letter of the alphabet and pressing TAB for the autocomplete list of available commands.  If you're a text adventure fan, frotz, an Infocom adventure interpreter, is now included as well.  I've a huge stock of all the old infocom games from many years ago still, so have popped them on the CF card for any bored moments (like I'd get a chance, LOL!)  Lots of quality free ones available from //www.ifarchive.org in the if-archive/games/zcode directory.

Vasco

either trying to use firmware settings or setting all manual it wont work, tried open system, shared key, even turning wep off...
SC CF + 1GB Kingston CF + flashed NDS = a whole lot of fun.

if your having trouble with the rc.conf, u can rename it to a .txt then edit it in dsorganise

bert

hey, that worked for me. the browser's working for me now. looks nice, hope it'll be able to render graphics soon.

and it's a lil complicated to set up, especially when you wanna use it somewhere else than at home. but it works :D
