Hi

So has anyone ever been sued for illigally downloading video game roms?

Not just nds roms, roms for any gaming consol.

Any details would be helpful.

I want to know that I'm fairly safe and that I won't end up like soemone else who did the same thing.

I'm sure it's happened, but the people who are busted more often are the ones who distribute the stuff on a large scale. Those are the cases that make the news.

You're always taking a risk when you download software. If it's that big of a concern, don't do it.

Yeah...

Looking at it from Nintendo's standpoint, if you uploaded an NDS ROM, it would be worthless to track down and sue the about 2,000 people who downloaded it (by IP... that'd take forever) from you. It'd just be easier to take 2,000 and muliply it by $35 and sue the distributer for every game they got ripped off for.

nintendo doesn't seem to care that much because a small portion even do pirate their games(~1% of DS owners?)
Sony on the otherhand, is aggressive on that subject... :D

You pretty much are safe

Devil_Spawn

i read recently DS profits take about a 5% hit from piracy

I don't think it's that much? But isn't that only slightly prjected as that figure assumes that if someone didn't pirate a game they would buy it?

Hi

No way devil_spawn, I just don't believe it.

Even if it's true, Thundrestrike has a VERY good point, that % is taken assuming that every game someone downloads they would buy if they couldn't pirate.

Buy even with that assumtion, I find that hard to believe. Where did you read this?
