I got a call from EBGames sayin I should come pick up red steele and i had 48 hours to do so.  Well, the Wii is not in my position yet, but I figured, meh, Ill go get it its down the street.

Just for kicks I put the disc in my PC to attempt to make an ISO of it.  I got nothing.  Is it on a standard DVD or?  Does this mean its gonna be like some GDRom type of optical media?

Gleasonator

I bet it's some weird HD thing.

While we're here, I heard that Nintendo's releasing the Wii WITHOUT DVD support, then rereleasing it WITH DVD support in 2007. This would be stupid on Nintendo's part... but is it true?

Uh its not an HD thing, Wii has no DVD, and yes that is true, but its probably just a program anyone can purchase.   Nintendo = Sold Separately, but keep this about ISOs.

Gleasonator

It must be another Nintendo conspiracy like the NGC discs. It took 4 years before anyone actually made the ISOs useful. Nintendo like's to be called the unhackable, so I doubt anyone'll be able to do anything with these discs for a long time. Even if someone makes a mod-chip, I'll bet $100 that the 24Connect thing Nintendo has going on will detect it and cut you off from WiFi. I guess you could still use it USB, but I dunno if it's wort losing online play over (or buying another Wii).

Not really stupid. Not like this thing actually needs a dvd player. Hell, if the 5 people in the world without a DVD player wants to wait until then, let them. I'm getting mine next week lol  :D

Gleasonator

I agree, except for the fact that DVD might help homebrew-wise. It's stupid because now people KNOW that they're rereleasing it, and will wait. If they didn't tell anyone, then they'd all buy it without the DVD, then "OMGZ!!1 DA NEW W11 KAME OWT!!11" and then buy it AGAIN when it rereleased.

What people don't know is that the DVD playback can be activated through a software upgrade. They could just be releasing the new Wii "model" with it already installed and existing Wii owners could just download the shit. That would be cool.

sardaukar

There are already 3 ISO releases of Wii games : Red Stell (#1), Wii Sports (#2) and Zelda : Twilight (#3). No idea on how to use them, though.
he Internet is a series of tubes. :D

i'm curious how they dumped them.  Gamecube games had to be dumped from the cube itself, and I would assume Wii discs are also not readable by a DVD drive in a PC.

Maybe they got their hands an a Wii earlier than expected

sneef

but i would still be surprised that someone already hacked the wii's IO system to be able to stream game data from some IO port on the wii.  it's a bit early for that.

I read elsewhere that the ISO's are fake.  I have no opinion on it one way or the other

Well don't some people hack their cube to put normal a bigger case on it so they can use DVDR's in for backup, of course the Panasonic Q already had a dvd drive. I'd expect it may use the same disc format, after all the Wii is a cube with more ram isn't it ! and a really cool controller

im pretty sure isos are isos, they dont capture file formats/ data they simply take exactly whats on the disk

maybe im wrong

Kenzya

Wii discs can't be read in a PC and they are not DVD's. Try to stick an xbox game in your computer. There's no way you can capture an iso if the computer can't read the disc.

DeVS

Wii disc are DvD's. I can read an XboX 1 and an XboX 360 in my Samsung pc drive with the Keron firmware (xbox 1 and XboX 360 disc are DvD's also).
