M3 battery?

Hi

I'm thinking of giving my supercard Cf to my sister for X-mas. I like my supercard, but I only use it for nds games. (My sister owns a gba.) Since the supercard rumble is so cheap I thought I'd buy that for myself so my sister could have my supercard.

Then I found out about the m3 pro. It's expensive, but I could use it to make my homebrew soft-reset to the main menu. I decided if I got enough money I'd buy it rather then the supercard rumble, as I really want to make my homebrew reset.

But then, I read a review of the M3 adapter that made me think different. (http://www.emuparadise.org/reviews/M3/, It's a review of the m3 perfect, not the M3 pro.)

The M3 uses a battery?

exact quote from the website... "This comes in handy if your M3 battery has died and your gamesaves cannot be backed up."

later on it says "The save support is excellent, only minor gripe here is that when your game makes a "Save", it gets written to the M3 SRAM. Once you restart your DS (sometime later..) the SRAM gets backed up to the Compact Flash. An on-the-fly (without rebooting) backup solution would be more convenient since I'd hate to imagine how saving would work (you'd have to software reboot..) when the M3's batteries run out. (And apparently the battery change procedure is not very simple..)"

So, what's this mysterious M3 battery. There seems to be very little information on it on google. (Then again, I'm terrible at google searching.) I don't want to spend all my savings on the m3 and then find out I can't save normally without spending more money on a new battery.

If I spend all of my savings on the M3 pro, I expect to last me pretty much forevery and continue to be fully functional.

So, WHAT'S THE STORY WITH THIS BATTERY THINGAMABOB?  :?

Why don't you just get a supercardlite then?(the regular version)  Then you have saves that are like the real ds, you get way more homebrew, and eventually if you got a slot 1 you can use the supercard as a ram pack for the web browser.

There's little point getting an M3 unless you're going to play GBA games on it, in my opinion. Supercard is cheaper and with supposedly higher NDS compatibility.

If you have a regular DS, go for the Supercard Mini-SD (as it doesn't stick out) or if you're really obsessed with homebrew, get the CF version instead (though be warned, it's ugly).

If you have a DS Lite, go for the Supercard Lite (Don't get the 'rumble' version of any SC though, as they lack the GBA ram, limiting their homebrew use)

Generally I find soft-reset on flashcarts to be more trouble than it's worth.

Battery is for SRAM, I think, mainly it is used for GBA saving.

Hi

I already own a supercard Cf. I never play gba games. And I don't think you understand. Allow me to explain.

I...

really, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY

want my homebrew to do a soft reset.

If someone has a way of making homebrew reset to the main menu, then
pretty pretty please with icecream, wipped cream, banna, pancakes, the sun that fell out of the sky yesterday, and a cherry on top, share it with me. I'M BEGGING YOU!!!

Any more info on the m3 battery would be helpful.

That's fair enough, it can be done on Supercard already, using a lib called 'Lick's libcartreset' - I don't know if this lib works on m3.

If NDS games and resetting homebrew is all you care about, screw the m3. You'll just be pouring money down a hole. I've never heard of the m3 batteries dying, they SHOULD recharge themselves when the unit is in use, just like the Supercard Mini-SD.

Hi

I know about libcartreset, but as I've never programed in any language other than quickbasic, I don't know how to add it into homebrew.

May I ask why you're so desperate to have your homebrew reset?
Power button broken, or just one of those things?

Hi

I want my nds to feel like a computer.

The only thing left to achive my goal is to make homebrew reset.

Do you have to restart your computer each time you want to exit a program?

but a computer doesnt take <3secs to boot up...

Hi

You mean each time you want to exit a program you have to restart your labtop or am I misunderstanding you?

Those labtops must be really old if I'm not misunderstanding you.

Okey then, I WANT MY DS TO SEEM LIKE A NORMAL COMPUTER.

Making homebrew reset to the menu is not that simple. libcartreset needs to implemented into the software while it is being compiled, so you'd need the source code, dev kit etc... or speak to the developers of the homebrew you want to see this feature in.

Perhaps you would have been better off with a palmtop pc? :P

Hi

I might be better off with a palmtop PC, or I might be better off with the M3, which allows you to add the restart option to homebrew apps.

Motta, back on topic, if the M3's batteries recharge themselves, could you explain what was said on the review of the M3 at emuparadise?
