UK Stock Shortages

I have just been informed by Play.com that my son will not be getting Zelda or the mini-games (+ Wii remote) due to stock shortages. They have just been informed by Nintendo. This is even with them being one of the offical launch partners.

I pre-ordered these ages ago and am pretty pee'd off. The only consolation is that Play was doing them at a heavily reduced price, which has now risen. Maybe they are hoping that I'll cancel.

Anyone else have this message?

Its the same problem with Argos. I am expecting a call today to see if i will get me Wii console tommorow or "sometime before Christmas" I am not happy as I ordered on the 22nd October. I have e-mailed Codestorm who are the UK representatives of Nintendo and asked what is going on and will we get any compensation.

Edit:

If you pre-ordred from Argos but did not getr an automated phone call last night then you wont get your console on Friday. I did not get a call and I am not happy.

Well I heard from a friend last night that the Game shop he works in got 20 consoles... when they had 100+ preordered. I'm thinking I'll not be getting one till well after the new year.

It gets worse! I checked my account at Play.com expecting the console at least to have been shipped, but it says "awaiting stock". I ordered on 13/10 and they stopped taking orders sometime after. This is ridiculous! My son is going to be VERY upset if it does not arrive before Xmas.

I ordered mine with play on 15/09/2006 and the same thing happened. Lots of vendors got a lot less wii's than they thought it seems.

Finally got through to Play.com- no one who ordered after 27th Sept will be getting a console before Xmas. No email to inform you of this fact and one VERY upset son! So much for you ordering on 15th! Maybe you will get it before Xmas then.

Trying to be Zen about this.
Ordered on the 16th and will be happy whenever it arrives.
Didnt stop me checking out a few shops in south london.

Lots of shops (all the ones around Clapham anyway) didnt get any stock in!
Man were there a lot of pissed parents.

It was infact easier for me to get a PS3 than a Wii.....

Just found out that the local Game managed to fufill the preorder of some people at the office....guess no work is going to be done today then :)

Maybe it was my own fault- I got so pee'd off with the people at Game in Kingston-U-T insitisting that I had to take out their loyalty card that I told them where to put it. Even the friend who is the marketing director of Hamleys couldn't help as the Game in their shop is a consession.

No Zen here just another extremely miffed parent who has to explain the situation to their child (the woman on the'phone  at Play.com refused to take this role upon herself when I suggested it...she was only allowed to speak to the account holder)

No wonder there are stock shortages- found the local independent selling his batch on e-bay. Laptop on the counter with the bid at £299 with 7hr to go!

Id suggest checking out argos if still need one for crimbo. They claim theyll get limited stock before then.  I heard they got 15000 on the launch so expect them to get a big batch next time again.  They were taking orders still a few days after amazon sold their lot on the launch.

Other than that i heard that Tesco and Morrison had them on shelves on 8th dec... and that another batch was due tommorow (15th dec)

Not sure if this will help, but is perhaps a lead if still after one.

I'll be camping out tonight at the localish Toys R Us which will release 90 consoles at 9am Saturday. Having promised him since July, I will have to make my son's Xmas one that he can remember rather than forget. My only wish now is for body armour to protect myself from the e-baying "yoofs" of Southall and Feltham.

We don't do Morrisons down here I'm afraid (pity because they stock Estrella Damn though I would have preferred Voll Damn-the best beer there is). There's a Tesco's (24h) next to the TRU, so I'll check that out during the night time vigil- it is after all Christmas.

FINAL POST
Got one after a 9h wait at TRU. Fortunately, they left the lobby open for us as the temp dropped from 12C (at midnight!) to 4 very rapidly. So much for the 90- it went down as fast as the temp to 31, which left a lot of the 4am people peed off. It's amazing how many rounds of I-Spy that you can get in during that time. All in all, a nice bunch of guilty parents and the e-bayers were left out in the cold (literally as we already had compiled the list of people and times and they were forced to wait in line outside just in case).
