When you actually BUY games since you have a flashcart you probably aren't You want something that will last you a while and is interesting.  I like games with a complex story so your hooked and want to play it.  Its really based on personal preference like those arcade space shooters but alot of people don't so now its dying away :(

StaticStrike

I like rpgs for the reasons that were already stated: long length and a deep storyline. I also like rpgs that have open worlds and a large amount of freedom with things to do. Their is also character depth; such as leveling and creating diffenent types of warriors or wizards.

I have only played some Elder Scrolls games and a few others, but I have really enjoyed them.
njoy your life.

I hate 99% of he RPGs. One of my favorite games is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, but that's Mario! What do you expect? :D I think Final Fantasy sucks pretty bad... but then my favorite series is The Legend of Zelda, but I'm not sure that even counts.

Fire Emblem for GBA is a pretty fun game.

The reason why I like it is that it is part RTS, part RPG, with a lot of really cool classes and weapon types and stuff like that.

TBH, it's the only traditional RPG that I've really gotten into and enjoyed.  The other ones I've played have mostly been just to pass the time, not to have fun.

RPGs require a lot of time and patience... if you prefer action-oriented games, you'll probably want to just avoid them.

Hi

I don't have much patiance...

I like the way Rpg's last a long time and have a good story. (I have played some Rpg's, yes.) but the gameplay isn't great in my opinion. What do you like about the gameplay? (If you do?)

I love RPGs, or I should say watching people play RPGs.  I just can't seem to figure those puzzles out!  Only RPGs I can play are Pokemon and games with guides.

I've never been a big fan of RPG games.  They're a little too boring for my taste.  One of my favorites though was Willow for NES.  It was actually pretty good.  I also liked Baldur's Gate somewhat...

I'm a huge fan of "adventure" games, which I like for the same reasons as stated for RPGs.  Long play time and good stories.  Scumm games are great (actually I liked just about every lucas arts adventure game).  I was into the Zork series... there are many others, too...

Zygarth

I go for stories every single time, without it it just isn't that interesting to me. Same goes for crappy stories. This doesn't apply to rpg's only. That's why I like mgs and Zone of the Enders too.
Of course there are exceptions when the action is just too good to care about a story. Like a game of online shooting and a simple challenging platformer like the early mario's.

Hi

I agree Zygarth, stories are a nice feature in a game, although I don't go for them every time like you. It's too bad platform games usually don't have good stories.

I cannot stand menu driven turn based dice rolling with no free movement in the field of battle, turn based movements hardly ever count either, the only exception to this I can think off hand is Quest64, which no matter what anyone says, was one of the few good RPGs.

ImmortalNinja

I think the main thing about RPG's is the story.
Which is why I like only some RPG's.

I kinda like a book and its nice to get involved and connected you your characters. Thus a good RPG should make you want to see whats going to happen next and not force you to grind.

This is why I didnt particularly enjoy Children of Mana and find FF3 a bit bleh.

My fav game of all time is FFvi which had so many 'main' characters all that had a proper history to get intwined in. Each character also had unique skills to vary the game play.
Although overall it was still a turn based dungeon exploration, there was enough variation in puzzles and mini-games to keep it interesting through-out the game.

I guess some people also like RPG's for their stats and strategy element.

But the main draw has to be a good story to make you want to know what happens next.

But this I think should be true for all games not just RPGS.
Just dont overdo it like in MGS2 and beyond!

Hi

ImmortalNinja, thats what I think.

I think it's nice that rpg's have good stories, but the gameplay is just terrible! (or atleast I think so.) I see know reason why platform games, action games, ect can't have the features of an rpg (story, takes a long time to beat the game) as well!

But I repeat, does anybody here like the gameplay that rpg's have, and why?

I dun really like RPG either, especially those which i need to level up and those which i keep encountering enemies when walking...i feel kinda irritated and lazy to level up. Spyro series works fine for me, though its part action aventure, part rpg.

I like Sims game like nintendogs, or tycoon games, but Zoo tycoon isnt really nice. But i heard theme park tycoon is coming soon. Trama Center can be considered a SIM same as well ba.

FPS is yes, but aside from Metriod Prime, not much titles available liao. Racing yes as well, but except for Mario Kart, i dun see other racing game worth playing.
