when roman release the new firmware that will be able to play games directly from the CF/SD card, will the ds battery last longer?

Maybe but I doubt it.  They will be accessing the CF/SD card more for reads/writes.

i guess we eill have less battery .. but who cars if we can play ?

i think it will make no difference. the CF/SD reader is now also always on (for gba realtime-saving etc) and you dont have to transfer up to 256mbit at the beginning to the ram.

marcelo

yeah, the ram is the great responsable for the power consuption.

i don't know about that.  The greatest power drain occurs during the rom transfer from SD/CF card to the supercard's ram.  (and during a 'real time save' operation)

So based on this, it MAY actually drain more batteries if there's a constant stream..

besides that, it's passing through more equipment.  Think of it this way:  when you are playing a game, your DS or GBA is only accessing the Supercard's ram, through the supercard's GBA PCB...  With the new firmware, the data will be streaming through the SD/CF interface within the supercard, through the supercard's PCB, through the GBA pins on the supercard, to the GBA slot of your DS/GBA... the signal flow is longer, and passes through more circuitry..

but in any case, I will be super-happy!

we could try how it will affect it:
- charge battery
- play a movies until red lamp goes on (and write down the time, of course! ^^)
- charge battery
- play 1 nds/gba game until nds wants new power

as far as i know movie playback is directly from CF/SD, so it should be pretty good for testing issues. but well, i don't care about the lifetime of the battery so much that i would make this experiment.
but when you do, post your results 8) !

well, I care, because I would need to bring enough extra power with me when i'm travelling (i travel frequently).  So it's a good discussion, and good to know.

i start playing and in about 3-4 hours, i have to recharge it..

i was thinking..

Supercard steals energy to keep the game on the RAM, if with new firmware  supercard will read diretly from CF.. i guess it will may use only energy when DS need new info..
