Which Supercard to recommend?

Hi!

In the next couple of weeks, I will be getting a couple of supercards for my friends. They both got DSlites for christmas!

The thing is, I'm not sure which version i should be getting for them. Either the SCLite, SCLite rumble, or the new SCDS (One).

So which would you recommend and why? I don't think they'd care about GBA support, or rumble support either, but I just don't know about compatibility! Is the DS (One) just as compatible as the Slot 2 ones?

Are there any other differences I should be noting?

Thanks for any advice

Get the SCDS, for sure. It doesn't have as much as compatibility as the slot2 ones have, but it will improve over the time (in a couple weeks, I guess, it will be the same for both). Besides, SC slot2 GBA compatibility is not so great... it's not a strong point against SCDS. Lite's not handling GBA games well (most of them have slowdowns, and you must use a key combo to save or QPC). SCDS and Rumble series can't play GBA ROMs, as they don't have RAM.
Also, the SCDC's interface is plain sexy.

I would actually recommend an R4. I got mine today and it is sheer awesomeness... It is REALLY good.

Ummm well I just had a friend come over and they wanted to buy a flashcart.  Basically the end result was, I did not recommend any of the slot 1 carts, because they either need to be flashed ( DS Link ), they have bad support at the moment ( SCDS ) (even though it probably will be fixed), or they cost way too much ( DS X ).  I did not know R4 would become such a great cart, so I didn't even look at that as an option.  In the end, I recommended the EZ Flash IV Lite Deluxe bundle because it basically has a really easy system to use, it support is great, and overall it is cheap, and it has great functions.  However, at the moment, I am looking at the R4 as a good choice, I might even get one for myself.  :)

I should probably add that the folk i'm buying for are pretty clueless about this sort of stuff. So ease of use is a MUST. I just read an article saying the saving is a bit iffy on the SCDS (One).  Can anyone elaborate? Would it be an issue for beginners? Its just I've got a plain old phat SCSD, and have never had any problems whatsoever.
If this slot 1 solution causes problems, I'd rather stick to slot 2, i think...

Well that is why I wouldn't recommend the SCDS.  I personally don't have one, but seeing people having trouble with a flashcart turned me away from buying one.  If ease of use is important, then get a cart that supports drag and drop.  I'd say a DS Xtreme or maybe R4.  If you still want a patcher, but something even simpler than the Supercard's, then get an EZ Flash 4.  I can't stress how much I love the EZ Flash 4, it is way underappreciated, it is really good, it is just put away because their NDS support is 99%, with like 1 more rom not working than Supercard.  And automatically everyone thinks that the Supercard is WAY better than the EZ Flash when it comes to NDS support.

The R4 is drag and drop. Occasionally, you have to download a new romlist and place that on the MicroSD card. It doesn't really get much easier.

Are there people who would actually drag and drop roms without trimming them.  That just seems so beyond stupid to me.

PharaohsVizier

Well if I had the option, I probably would.  Trimming is good, saves a lot of space, but if I get the option for something as simple as drag and drop, I'd do it.  It isn't like I can't go back to the computer to swap games ever again, I am always near my computer.  Even so, I could always bring in my Supercard Mini SD for my powerhouse storage.

If not trimming means i can get it onto my card faster, meaning i can play it faster, and not have any complications...well then, I'm all for it.  As Pharaoh said, we can always go back to our computers and swap out games.

Now, on the Supercard DS Slot 1, where are the saves...saved?  I assume I'll have to swap those out too :)

Hi .

sinkhead, I live in the uk too. can you point me in the direction of a site that sells the r4? Is it as compatible as the supercards? What sort of price is it?

The #1 complaint I have about the supercard is it's patch software.  I don't know why they haven't spent some time making it write to memory cards faster, even if they have to write to a harddrive temp file, then copy it to the memory card.   If they don't want to do this, at least give us command line options where people can make their own tools to do it for us.   With command line options like SupercardDS Mario.nds -trim -reset -whatever f: someone could easily write a nice rom management software that would let you drag and drop files on it, and it could do all the patching, renaming to good filenames, backing up your saves, etc.
