Hello from Maine,

I have a strange problem!

I have a DS with supercard CF and supercard SD

The supercard CF with 256 MB Sandisk CF card works perfectly!

So I got the supercard SD with a 2 GB sandisk SD memory card. The supercard came as 1.63 firmware and would recognize the 2 GB sandisk SD card but would "white screen" games, so I updated to 1.7 firmware and loaded 1 rom and it worked. Then I put the SD card into the card reader, set it to "shared" on my network, and loaded it full of roms over the network (the network is only my 2 computers) then I took the SD card out of the card reader and when I insert it into the supercard, the supercard is not recognised by the DS (I get the no card is inserted DS menu with chat ect)

When I insert the supercard without the SD memory card the supercard boots (complaining)

When I test the supercard all tests pass except one (as there is no SD card in it)

So I tried formatting, scandisk, setting it "not shared", switch USB ports, everything multiple times - no matter what : with the SD card in the supercard it does not work (it acts as if nothing is inserted to the DS)

What should I do?

Thanks you,
Craig

Try shaking the SD card, can you hear anything rattling around inside? If it's the write protection lock you hear rattling, hold that still and see if there's anything loose inside the card.
Also, is the SD card a very loose fit in the SC? If it is, try putting a bit of card or a few bits of paper under the card, as it may not be making contact to the reader inside the SC.

spystyle, welcome to scdev!

I know you said you formatted it, make sure your 2gig SD is formatted to FAT (FAT16).

sinkhead

If it's not formatted in FAT, it gives a different error doesn't it?

spystyle

I am an uncertified (not mcse) PC tech of over 10 years (just for the record)

It is formatted to fat16 (fat) for sure

Thank you for the welcome and the replies, my daughter is looking forward to having this high capacity SD card working :)

Cheers,
Craig

Spystyle, any luck yet?

have a couple of ideas or questions to possibly help;

Where did you purchase your supercard sd from? (If not a authorized dealer, possibly it is a fake and won't take the firmware upgrade.)
Have you tried the supercard patching software ver 2.57?
Did you make sure you got the correct firmware, not the supercard rumble version.
Have you tried just putting a couple of .dsq/.sav files onto the supercard and see if that works.

Thanks on the avatar. I actually work about 20 miles from the "Goonie house" which is located in Astoria, OR.

You can visit the Goonie house? Lucky guy! I would :)

As for the firmware and software : I got the most recent versions today, specifically for SD. I used the correct firmware - it will not accept the wrong firmware.

I verified the supercard is not a fake

As for what files I put on the SD card to see if it would work - I tried full of roms, 1 rom only, and nothing on it. It won't work in the supercard after the 1.7 update. But I can't recall if it worked once after the update or not - I was juggling a few things at the time.

Tomorrow the stores open back up and I will be able to get another SD card for testing - I'll prbably get a 1 GB. It seems the version 1.7 firmware doesn't like 2 GB Sandisk SD card...

I suppose I'll flash back to 1.63 firmware using a smaller SD card and see if that helps.

I was just wondering if I was missing something obvious, thanks for all your replies.

Cheers,
Craig

OK update:

I had originally ordered the supercard from www.sky2k.com

I determined it was fragged, so I e-mailed the seller

I explained to him that it was to be a present for my daughter and I needed to exchange it.

He sent me another supercard right away - asking that I'd send the defective one when it arrived.

Sure enough it got here and works like a charm.

I really appreciate that the seller sent one out without making me wait for the defective one to get to him, also without charging me.

I would not hesitate to order from that guy again. His customer service is A+

Happy gaming,
Craig
