I didn't notice it on my DSLink until reading a thread on here about it... maybe two days ago?

It's not noticable on mine, but you can feel it if you press your finger down and run it across. Like 1/4 a milimeter sticking out.

I've had a DSLink for 4 months, and lots of people here have had them longer... I haven't heard of one problem related to the casing cracking.

I don't know about X9 (never held one), but my buddy has a SC(One) and it's as sturdy as my DSLink. I doubt anyone will have cracking issues. Just like with the crap looking USB port on DS-X. I doubt anybody cracks it off. Although these "new" Slot-1 devices are flimsy in appearance, the li'l bastards are tough. Maybe not quite OEM, but close (finally).

The thing I couldn't stand about the SCDS1 is having to change the speed settings, it would really annoy me.

I've not had to change the speed settings since receiving it myself, although the 1.1 msforsc set my card to speed 30. Not really had a single problem or game not working since I received it.

Hey Ratx, what kind of card are you using? My Sandisk Ultra II rated speed "5" ... not 5x, but 5. After formatting 64k clusters though, I manually set it to 4x and it's doing fine. I think the autodetect function is crap so far.

And yeah, sinkhead, like ratx said, it's supposed to be set it once and forget it. If you can't get everything running at 4x, then try formatting with 64k clusters. If that doesn't get everything running at 4x, then you could try manually setting a specific value between 3x and 4x. I don't have my DS here with me, but I believe the actual speed values for 3x is 21 and 4x is 28. So try setting it to 25 to see what happens, and if it works well, move up to 26, and etc. until you find the sweet spot. THen leave it there.

how do your format for fat16? and is there any gains over FAT?

I'm in winxp and it only allows NTFS, FAT and FAT32. same when i go into command line and try to format

FAT is FAT16 in a nutshell, sorry for the confusion.

Same with me.

I Initially had problems with a made in china Kingston 1gb but after replacing it with a made in japan Kingston 1gb, it was flawless.
