Well, my EZ-V arrived this morning, my R4 should arrive later today or tomorrow. I have just spent 30 minutes or so testing download play on a handful of ROMs and thought I'd share my results. I will update this post once my R4 arrives and I have tested it as well ...

Test setup is as follows. One DS Lite (flashed) and one DS phat (unflashed) ... All ROMs are trimmed, otherwise clean (no hybrid ROMs were used).

EZ-Flash V
Flashed DS to un-flashed DS
Tetris DS - PASS
Super Mario Bros - FAIL
Mario Kart - FAIL
Clubhouse Games - FAIL
Bomberman - PASS
StarFox - PASS

Un-flashed DS to flashed DS
Tetris DS - PASS
Super Mario Bros - PASS
Mario Kart - PASS
Clubhouse Games - PASS
Bomberman - PASS
StarFox - PASS

So there you have it. Seems that download play works fine going to a flashed DS from an unflashed one ... Unfortunatly I don't have another unflashed DS to test (unflashed to unflashed) and I want to wait until my R4 arrives before I flash my phat again to test flashed to flashed. But yeah - seems to me that if you're trying to play with a friend who has an unflashed DS, the solution is simply to throw your EZ-V in the  unflashed DS and download from him. Seems to work just fine!

Awesome post.

If unflashed to flashed works, unflashed to unflashed would surely work... I think that's a safe assumption.  I hope :D

This is really great, I was getting a little apprehensive when I started thinking about how I would do multiplayer when many people were mentioning download play difficulties with EZV... apparently they were using flashed DSs, which doesn't really seem necessary now that slot 1 cards are available and that bricker scare is gone.

mavis

Yeah, I was kind of surprised but it is certainly good news for people who do multiplayer a lot ...

Anyway if anyone wants me to test any games in particular, just let me know. I've got them all ... ;)

That's terrific. Couldn't find that info HERE though, eh? ;) What I do see HERE are posts where people are asking which is better, the R4 or EZV - I thought I'd help to answer part of that question.

Not trying to sound mean but that nonflashed to flashed has always worked with all games....  So really as of now download play has not been improved upon at all since some games have the ability to do download play even from a slot 2.

And how does that list compare the EZ-V to the R4? Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but that is the point of this thread, as the title and my first post implies ...

I know, I am just saying the first part of your test was unnecessary as you could have took it from somewhere else.  I don't mean to offend you or anything...

I'm not so sure - I just tried download play with Bomberman last weekend, I was running it from my SC and the other DS was flashed - it did not work. With the EZV it DOES work though, even from a flashed DS ... Like I said in my first post, I will repeat the tests one last time after my R4 arrives, the last test will be from a flashed DS to another flashed DS. But so far, at least for that one game, the EZV works where the SC failed ...

No offense taken, and thanks for trying to help. However, until today I did not know that download play worked from an unflashed DS to a flashed one (and it seems the second poster in thread didn't know that either) ... Anyway, I will finish up my comparison once my R4 arrives! :)

I can't wait.  Any chance you have other slot 1s to test?

Nope, just the R4 and EZ-V ... AFAIC, slot1's have matured to the point where it's not really necessary to have anything else ... At least, that's what I'm hoping :)

So... do yo think that it's flashed DS's or unlashed DS's that are the problem? IE flashed DS's to flashed DS's have perfect compatibility.
 like cream soda...

The sending DS doesn't matter.

What matters is the receiving DS. With original firmware (ie unflashed), only some games work. With FlashMe, all games should work.
