SCDS saver?

In the menu of the scds there is a pull down menu at the top called saver and it has the options 4K 64K 512K 2M/4M. Then when you select a game it gives you the option to change the save size for that game. My question is what is the saver menu for?

Different games have different save sizes, for example:
A game like Tetris just has to save what level you have got up to, your highscores and so on.
A game like Children of Mana has to save all the items you have got, all the quests you have completed, all the people you have talked to, where you have been and so on.

To save all the information it needs to, Children of Mana will have to use a larger save file than Tetris, because it has to store more information. The SCDS1 has a list that tells the device what size the save file needs to be, but sometimes this list may be wrong. You can change the save file size in this menu, so you don't have to wait for the SuperCard Team to release a new list.

Thats fine but how do you know what size the save file should be? guess and check? what happens if the save file is the wrong size?

You can find this info on the save size at the Supercard compatibility list. It lists the info on the game, the save, and the settings to run on a supercard.

sinkhead (or others), when i choose the save size for example wiffleball is 4k (from dualscene) and play the game and then it says it saves the game. I turn off power then quickly back on, but it still says "save size:Unkown". what am i doing wrong?

after you change the save size did u save the saver size? (like u highlight the game, hit X and in the popup screen hit change untill its the right save size, then hit save.)

another thing is that some games arent detected properly (as i mentinoed before; scurge hive shows up as gyakuten saiban and touch tetectives shows up as some other game, so sometimes you have to manually change the saver because the dsrominfo file isnt perfect..)

on a side note, is there an official number system for the games? cuz i went to a bunch of diff sites and theres a few versions of numbering out there... or better yet. is there a way i can change that header info (or wherever it's stored)? the part where its supposed to have the game name to be detected by the card.
