Back up a save file from a commercial GBA game? I've got an R4 with an unflashed DS Phat. (I unflashed it sometime ago. If required, I'll reflash it in 2 mins)

So how do you do it with a slot-2? It seems as though that would be even stranger. Something to do with hot-swapping I assume?

I also have a GBA SP and a GBA. One last thing needed is a flash linker?

Yes, a linker will let you connect your computer to the GBA's serial port, allowing you to backup saves from real cartridges.  The best program for doing this is FlashManager, although it has a slight issue with games that use EEPROM.  Check http://releases.pocketheaven.com/asearch/?Save=%25EEPROM%25&Sort=Name to see if your game uses EEPROM and http://wiki.pocketheaven.com/FlashManager for more info about the issue and instructions for fixing it.
