DS-Link & flashme question

Just curious why does ds-link require flashme to run.
Or why does it require the MK4 to run if it is a slot 1 cart.

And about flashme, how does the recovery work.  Say if something happened to my ds, like the brickers that were out before, how would I go about for recovery of my ds.

If your DS was bricked (with flashme installed) you can recover easily by putting the flashme.nds file on your Supercard and holding a+b+start+select when turning on. From there you can re-flash and be up and running again!

The DS-Link does not contain a nopass, so it will not simply boot on an unflashed NDS. The Mk4 is a nopass device, and has the option of booting and then allowing you to swap it out with another card (ie: DS-Link) then allowing it to boot. Flashing is the best way to go tho...

why is mk4 called a nopass? is it because it is for slot 1, and also
I thought slot 1 carts didn't need a passme or nopass because they were in the ds slot.  "meaning I thought slot 2 flashcarts required passme because they were running ds code from slot 2 "gba slot" therefore a slot 1 flashcart running ds code from slot 1 "ds slot" why wouldn't it just run.
Do all slot 1 carts have the no passme built in?
Or does the ds-link run like a slot 2 cart, but from slot 1.
I still don't get why ds-link is the way that it is, unless they figure that the majority uses flashme.
I own scsd, M3 sd slim, M3 simply, & SCDS, and I ordered a DS-link last week.  I going to get a dslite firmware dump to have handy just incase I decide to unflash my dslite someday.  Plus I have some friends who might be interested so that will help pay for ds-link if I have them throw in $5 or so.

Thanks for replying to my previous questions.  Sorry about all the questions, I am just trying to understand how it works.

There is certain RSA encryption that is included in certain slot1 devices (SCDS, M3 Simply, EZV, MK4 Mini, MK4 Key, etc) that allow to boot on an unflashed DS. The DS checks for authenticity and boots these cards just like a retail game. With the DS-Link, it does not include this feature. After you flash the DS however, the DS-Link will boot immediately just like a retail game. That's as simple as it is.

alright simple enough.  thanks for clearing that up for me.

just one question.

If you flashed a NDS lite with flashme, can it be reflashed back to the original, and get rid of the flashme program out of the NDS lite.

Well for the longest time, no.  But now, the DS Link can, and apparently someone on this forum said they made a version where all carts can unflash a DSL.
