VGA Boxes

I have a really cool computer room setup here and I want to hook my monitor to my computer and be able to play my Wii on it my monitor. From what I understand, all you need is a VGA box, and you just hook your monitor and game system up to it, then hook it up to your computer, right? OK I'm probably wrong, which is why I made this topic.

I just need to know if I need to buy anything to go with the VGA box, or if there's something better than a VGA box that I can use. If you still don't get me I want: Monitor>Wii AND computer at the same time. I assume that there's a little tab on the box that you switch to go from the Wii input to the PC input or something like that...

Also, most of the VGA box reviews I read pretty much said that they sucked. I checked PlayAsia and found one about as reliable as a SCCF: cheap and works like on a TV, but dies after about a year. (Which was out of stock anyways) And another one that said that the saturation was too low. I also checked eBay and found nothing.

So... anyone have a good VGA box?

They're available, but only from Nintendo by an order.

I suppose I could just buy a TV and use it in place for my monitor with these cables...

A side question: What's the difference between TV's and monitors?

I don;t think you understand :) Get the component cables and one of these adapters, and then you can output component from the Wii right into your PC monitor. I would imagine the quality would be outstanding :)

i have something similar to this: Link

it will do everything you want it to. for me, i mostly use it for the tv tuner since i don't want my computer to be on all the time. you have 3 inputs: 1) computer vga (the 15 pin d sub, which you can use from your computer as a pass though), 2) AV (the yellow, red and white video and sound cables, which is used by my vcd player) and 3) the ariel for tv.

Well, all I care about is that you said it nicely. ;) I've been looking around and just got something. I'm installing the software right now. If it sucks though I was reassured that I could get a refund, so I'll see what happens. :)

OK... this thing is working but I need a video capture program that can be viewed in fullscreen and uses sound. Anyone know a decent one?

EDIT: OK, here's my problem. I got a USB to composite box, which rocks because I can have my computer and Wii both going on my monitor at the same time... and the software it came with gives me awsome adjustions like contrast, saturation, and all that cool stuff. I get audio and video from it, but I only get a little 200x100 (about) box with the preview. :( I can barely see the ball in Wii Sports tennis.

Programs see it as a webcam, but AMCAP, which would be awsome to use because it's fullscreen, does not like the pinnacle. I've downloaded a few other applications, all of which gave me a preview, and one even game me fullscreen but had crappy quality and no sound.

I'm thinking I need sound drivers for this too because so far only the pinnacle software has been able to pick it up. It's a pinnacle USB 500 I believe. But I may have jumbled up the order of that. :P

If anyone knows a way I can fix this, it would be awsome. Otherwise I can still return this thing.

if you absolutely have to run it through the computer, then use an internal tv tuner card or one that's included on a graphics card.

i tried doing this with a usb video capture device and beside the quality being crap, there was a 1/2 second delay on everything. the problem isn't with the computer, it's the capture device (most usb non-host devices make your computer do the work).

Gleasonator

I think I might just return it... I have a TV tuner, but it's crap. This thing is AWSOME quality, but I can't get it fullscreen. It said on the box that you could use it for stuff like this, but I dunno. I'll read the manual and if I can't get it to work it's going bye bye.

why don't you get one of the ATi all in wonders then?  That would suit your needs for all that stuff and you will still get decent quality in games if you buy a more expensive one.

I have something called an "Adaptec Gamebridge 1410" or somesuch.  I should perhaps say "xx10", because I'm unsure of the first two digits. The software that comes with it (Intervideo home theatre) allows me to use it in full screen.  It accepts coaxial, composite, and s-video.  Oddly, in certain situations it has slight lag, which is disappointing...  I haven't noticed it in ANY GC games, but in Z:TP it's a bit of a problem sometimes.  I'm not sure what the problem is.  Wii Sports, for instance, is lag-free.  I'm going to find myself a Wii s-video cable and maybe it'll work slightly better or something.

I've wanted a TV tuner for a long time, and decided to pick up a gamebridge when I found one in an online store.  The great part is that they're external (USB) and relatively inexpensive, compared to an all-in-wonder card or something similar.  Mine cost me about $60 CAD shipped.

My local wal-mart has lots of these.  I've got one, in fact, still unopened!  Want it?

Gleasonator

O.o Wow. Sounds perfect! I'm going to check this out. Can you be a bit more specific about the lag, though? Is it only like AC:WW (when someone comes to your town) lag, or does it freeze for a few seconds?

Wow. I never knew. o.o

That's really cool of you, but I bet I can find one now. I'll check Wal-Mart as soon as I can. :)

Thank you a ton for the help!
