lack of wifi/multiplayer mode with R4 & other slot 1 que

my mate has just bought an R4 for his DS lite - it looks like a super package making my Supercard CF look like a dinosaur. However, I was stunned when he said that none of the wifi compatible games eg Mario kart, can use wifi or even multi player mode. Is this correct or does his DS just need setting up?
Also would something like BeUp work off the R4 card. Would it be true to say that the release of the slot 1 card has negated the need to flash the DS. I am assuming that the slot 1 card (eg R4) can do everything that a slot 2 system (eg Supercard CF) can do. So, are slot 2 cards doomed?

AFAIK, most (if not every) slot1 device has perfect WiFi features. Not every single one supports Download Play correctly, though. It may be flawed for some games.
Dunno about BeUP.
And I don't think slot2 carts are "doomed". Maybe they are not in their brightess hour, but still... they may act side to side with slot1 carts, as RAM expansions or Rumble carts. If not, they can always be reduced to a second, cheaper option over slot1.

thanks for the info on the wifi - i shall pass it on my mate. To be honest, as no flashing is required, I can see slot 1 cards completely swamping the slots card market i.e slot 1 RIP, as they will be seen to be completely noob compatible. Hell, it's not like there is even much of a price advantage with slot 2.
By the way, are all slot 1 card equal wrt their functions & mode of operation? Also, if offered a slot 1 card fre, what one would you go for?

um..I was playing some mario kart DS on my M3 Simply the other nite on wfc O.o...so I don't know what ur mate is smoking there XD

Their almost exactly the same except for how the start up menu looks but that isn't much of a deal breaker is it.
