Anyone manage to downgrade to 1.63 from 1.70 firmware?

It seems that 1.70 breaks almost all homebrew abilities. I can't run any homebrew at all. Anyone know how to downgrade if possible?

I haven't found a way to downgrade to 1.63, but the homebrew I've tried works under 1.70 in some way or another: DSLinux, Moonshell, DSOrganize (but I have to run it from within Moonshell -- I don't understand why, but it works), Rein, libWiFiTest, DSAim, and DSLua.

What "homebrew abilities" does v1.70 break? Seems the same compatibility wise as it was in v1.63.

I downgraded my SC CF from 1.7 to 1.63 to see if castlevania worked, but then found i needed a faster CF card so got that and now on 1.7

Got that right :) No reason to downgrade to v1.63, unless you enjoy taking steps backward in terms of rom support.

QPC saving is broken for me in 1.7 on my SC miniSD.  I searched around and found that it was indeed the firmware that was causing it, so I downgraded to 1.63b, which fixed the issue.

I use QPC saving for SnezziDS and other DS homebrew, so I kinda needed the functionality.  I was psyched when the new patcher was announced, but as a new firmware version did not accompany it, my enthusiasm was in vain, heh.

You didn't say what kind of SC you have, by the way.  Note that the people who downgraded had an SC miniSD and and an SC CF.

I still use 1.63, it's the best firmware so far IMO, based on the problems I've heard about with 1.7.

Oh, I had Supercard Lite, probably impossible then.

Yeah, what exactly is the situation with SC Lites and downgrading?  I remember a few weeks ago that the Supercard team released instructions for restoring 1.7 when attempting to downgrade bricked the SC Lite, but no instructions for actually downgrading.  Has this changed or are SC Lite users stuck with 1.7?  I'm curious, as this issue has come up in the past at other forums I go to.

EDIT:  Oh, and downgrading for me was as simple as downloading the older firmware version and booting it on my SC miniSD.  It worked fine, although I had to repatch my DS games that were made with the newer patcher.

I've asked before about downgrading a SC Lite, and I'm not entirely sure I've understood things properly, but this is what I think is going on:

There are two types of firmware files: .bin and .scu. The .bin files are full firmwares. The .scu files are upgrades only and don't have a full firmware. The .bin file for the platform can always be used because they're the full firmware. The .scu files, however, can only work under certain circumstances (between certain versions) because they're designed as upgrades only. On the SC Lite, we basically can't downgrade from 1.70 because none of the .scu files will work going from 1.70 to any other version, and there are no .bin files earlier than 1.70 available for the SC Lite. For the other types of SC, there are apparently .bin files that can be used to downgrade safely.

Again, I could very easily be wrong as I might not have properly understood what I was told. The basic message I took away is that there's (currently) no way to successfully downgrade a 1.70 SC Lite.
