Man i could not get any of my previously patched games to work with the new scds1 0120 OS, but then i remembered about the new patching selection in the new OS.

So what is the way to go clean roms or patched roms?

For those with scds1, what are your preferences for the best game play?

Koji

I'd say go clean. If the games are patched via memory in the SC OS and the originals are left clean, it doesn't make much sense to patch them beforehand.

For the best performance, patch on your PC first.  Do not use the new onboard patcher.

If you let the new OS (0120) patch them internally, it will slow down your access speed causing crashes.

I'll give you an example.

I've patched Castlevania: PoR on my PC.  I can play that game just fine on my SanDisk Ultra II.

However if I use a clean rom and instead use the new built-in patching feature of the SCDS1, the game crashes constantly.

Castlevania: PoR is a game that is very sensitive to slow MicroSD memory...maybe moreso than any other DS game.  99% of the time when it crashes the culprit is a too-slow MicroSD card.

Asking the SCDS onboard OS to do the patching for you effectively gives the card more work to do, and as a result the memory access speed is decreased. :(

So yeah, short answer, patch on your PC first and ignore the built-in patcher in the Supercard OS.

Must say if I was going to invest in a slot 1 solution, no patching would be a must, damn the M3/R4 sounds the way to go !

Looking for all opinions who use this, *cough cough* sneef, etc....

well patching on the computer on onboard has its pros and cons. Like if you patch it on the computer you can't fast read or anything but you can trim a rom which is very helpful. Patching it onboard can be alot easier, but it has its own problems.

I'm not a Windows user, so my main reason for buying SC DS ONE was being able to use clean roms. (Well, that and my SC SD was sticking a lot from my ds lite.)

If not being able to trim is the price to pay for being able to use clean roms, I'm down with it! But if there'd be a way to trim the roms other than the SC software.

I'm posting a new thread about trimming DS roms on a non-windows computer, so please help me there if you know anything about it or about what has to be done to trim a DS rom.

Someone on the DS-X forums released some C++ code for a trimmer that should work on most platforms, and I think somewhere in the thread are some precompiled Linux binaries.

hijoputismo

Oh, thank you! I'm going to search for / at those forums for the code.

I probably should have elaborated on that.  It's in the "home brew discussions" section on the second page or so.  Direct link is at http://forums.ds-xtreme.com/showthread.php?t=1964

Thank you for hooking me up! They seem to have Windows/MAC/Linux/Unix/NDS (any platform) builds there, so go have a look if you are interested!

It's not working for me at the moment, but maybe "I'm doing it wrong". Well, I already asked for help there, so I'm stopping whining here.

Thank you again, dantheman!

sorry i've been using m3 simply and EZV so much that I haven't really experimented with the built in patching on SCDS

now i'm curious though..  will check it out

onekelly

Sneef, no need to be   . But i am curious to see what you come up with.

Could someone please download the ndstrim_src_2.0.zip file from the dsx forum and upload it somewhere else? I don't have a DS-X and don't want to register to that forum. Thanks.
