Supposedly, as seen in #dsdev, there might be an official DS backup that is not overwritten by the bricker/crashme.  

There is supposedly a firmware backup in the first 64kbyte.  And there has been code found that checks the last 4 bytes of the game title, but it compares it to a value in memory that hasnt been mapped out yet. So this only says that there is possibly a no-solder solution to crashme.  

This really doesnt mean too much yet, but it's cool that some people are looking into it.  It might require a special cart to enable the backup, etc, etc... hopefully it'll be cracked soon.

I just hope that Romman and crew get some kind of protection put on the SC firmware.  That's my main concern at this point, but something like this might have to be implemented on the hardware level.  If so, we already have the hardware, so it could be too late.
