Hi

We've hacked the wii, so why aren't we seeing any homebrew for it???

We have not actually hacked the Wii. All the modchips for the Wii (and the 360) do is circumvent the copy protection on the disks. Executables are signed, which basically means that unless you can decrypt the signature and put it in your homebrew you can't compile an executable that the Wii will run.

it will be nice when hardware manufacturers realize that homebrew is not evil.  :)

of course homebrew is evil, that means quality of what is put out there on the web drops to crap, and nintendo along with other companies want nothing to do with software they can not control and manage, and definately do not want to be liable for programs that brick the system. The best work around this would be what nintendo is hopefully planning on doing, and that is provide software that allows programmers to be creative, but in the same time does not give them access to things that will destroy the system.

Perseid explanation is perfect, and also explains why people haven't managed to play other people's VC games. The games are encrypted and probably signed.

Knight: Still, nintendo method is less then stellar as well. First we have to take into consideration that it's near impossible to get a Wii development kit for small time publishers, and small time publishers would be doing the majority of the little download content for the Wii. Secondly, it's a time consuming process to hire people to test all these games for bugs and to make sure they don't affect the systems security. Someone will have to test each game under many circumstances which takes time and money.
