Passkey3 Totally Stopped Working, any ideas?

So I was testing some new software, and it was fine. I noticed the ds was a little warmer than usual underneath but thought nothing of it.

I switched off my DS, and then a few minutes later came to switch it back on.

Now, while I had my ds on previously, the light had turned red (indicating low battery). When it did, I plugged in power.

I now removed the power and tried to power up. Nothing. The DS did absolutely NOTHING. I was like...  :| because I thought it had broken. Anyway, I thought it must be that I hadn't had it on charge for long enough to be charged at all.

So I connected the power, and nothing.. Damn.

I left it charging overnight and tried a DS Card instead of my Passkey3. It worked. So I tried the passkey3, and the light turned red, and the ds turned off straight away. So basically, my passkey3 is busted. And I really, really don't want to buy another for no good reason.

Any ideas why this happened or how to fix?

Edit: Cracked open the passkey to see if anything was apparently obvious. On the one of two 'chips' on the board, there was a VERY thin (I was looking under a microscope) metal wire joining 4 or so of the contacts together. Could this be causing a problem? Or it might be an intentional part of the circuit. But  the wire is very tiny.

If I have my DS on, and insert the Passkey, the ds INSTANTLY switches off, as if the passkey has shorted or blown the ds or something. To get the ds to turn back on I have to connect it to power for a second (litterally) and then take out the power (and passkey) and it will work fine.

Hi

I can't help you fix it.

However, whatever you do, STOP "TESTING" THE PASSKEY. For now, we know for sure it doesn't work anyway, and I think continueing to use the passkey just might shorten the ds's battery life.

I am 99.9% sure that I won't be able to repair it. Guess I'll have to cough up again..

Why don't you just get a slot-1 flashcart instead, it will be more value worth in the long run. Morever I barely even use my passcard now that I have the R4.
