RIP Supercard?

Is the supercard dead?  It seems that every other card is getting a firmware update except the supercard.  Don't get me wrong.  I love my supercard.  But the lack of updates is making me wonder.  Are they ever going to fix GBA compatibility?  You can't get any answers on the official site.

Pretty much...The R4, M3 Simply, etc kinda have a bit more customization and firmware updates. Slot 1 ruined the compatibility issues. I personally like my R4 not to rebel against Supercard as I still own my SCSD, and even DEBATE if I should sell it or not.

Does the M3 have the best GBA compatability?

dOoBiX

Yea, the M3 is better for GBA than the SC

Hi

I think he ment does the m3simply have gba capibility. No it does not, nor does the m3pro for that matter. As for every other version, well, what dOoBiX said.

No, the sc isn't dead. They ARE still realising updates for both their cards, and I can't see any real advantage of the r4/m3simply over the scdsone

You do realize that many of the GBA issues are due to hardware, right?  Therefore, many issues cannot be fixed with a software update.  The M3 is more expensive, but uses faster RAM, so its GBA compatibility is higher.

I don't think it's dead at all.  Firmware updates might be a bit stifled recently, but that's no reason to start doubting.

Thanx for the feedback.  I wasn't planning on getting rid of my supercard.  Having to much fun with the retro games.  (Dspec, FrodoDs).  Just curious about updates.

A mature product shouldn't need frequent firmware updates. I can't think of any issues I actually have with the firmware. Alphabetical/customizable sorting of ROMs would be nice. And game compatibility for the most part is fixed on the patcher side, not the firmware side. If a device has new firmware updates every week, that to me is a sign that there's actually something wrong with the product.

Well it wouldn't be bad to see patches, but I don't mind.  The support is top notch, and when roms don't work, we get a patch.  I mean, it would be nice to see a new loader, some better GBA support, but for something I bought so long ago, it had a good run.

The SuperCard firmware right now seems to be pretty stable.  However, I would like to see a most skin-friendly interface, alphabetical sorting, maybe an "Information" button (as in, pressing Y will show you the file size, save size, options, et cetera), brightness adjustment, and easily customizable text (to change the "Help" menu and whatnot).  But, again, these do not affect compatibility or game play; these are just things that would be nice to have.  The firmware itself seems solid for the time being, so there's no real reason to do updates until new games start to have compatibility issues.

Those M3 and R4 updates were for skinning purposes. While it would be cool to make some awesome SCDS skins, its not really of high importance. Especially since you are only looking at the menu for a few seconds before selecting the game anyway. As long as it's running the games good, which it is, then I'm cool with it.

Yuk, what a way of seeing it !! :S It's like "I don't care if my car is all rusty, as long as it takes me to point A & B" ... :S

I totally disagree.

cygoku thats totally different, you see the car all the time and everyone looks at it for long amounts of time, of course you dont want it to look bad. but the menu is only seen for a few seconds so it doesnt really matter what it looks like

Nah. That's more like putting an ugly tarp over a decent looking car. You only worry about the tarp for a few seconds so who cares what it looks like? How's THAT for an analogy? :D

Really, though, if they added all the things Annon Kaies Zi pointed out I would be happy but I'm not going to dump my SC if they don't.
