Anyone here have a PS3, and have the sixaxis controller get stuck in a certain direction once in a while (for a second or so)?

bitblt

No problems here.  I've had one sixaxis act a little funny just before the battery warning message pops up, but otherwise they have been quite reliable for me.

Did you get a PS3 sneef?

sneef

yeah.  i did.  I had a couple huge rebate checks (that i forgot about) and sold off my sony ericsson k800i (decided I only need one phone) and had exactly enough for one, so I thought "what the heck.."

I don't see what all the bad press is about. seems like everyone has it in for sony in these "console wars"..  Its a very nice machine, with some very nice features.  expensive, but very nice.  playstation "Home" did it for me.. lol.  and yellow dog linux.

on a side note, I am thinking of installing debian instead of YDL... do you have a linux build on yours?

Yeah, the anti-PS3 trend seems to be running rampant on many forums. Try posting anything positive about PS3 and you'll be ransacked by gangs of Wii or 360 fan-boys cross posting misinformation.  I've never seen a new console release met with such negativity. It's quite a phenomena to observe.

I think the tides will start to change soon, after "Home" and Little Big Planet are released. The PS3 really is a fantastic system and games like Resistance and MotorStorm demonstrate just the tip of the iceberg of what the PS3 is capable of in the near future.  Blu-ray is winning. I expect the PS3 will dominate sales by Xmas 07.

No, but I plan to.  I created a linux partition and downloaded the YDL distro for PS3 but haven't installed yet. I've been busy lately, and I'm kind of waiting for things to mature like Linux support for the PS3 wireless chipset. I understand I can install a USB wireless dongle as a workaround. Opera has recently become available for PS3 so I might take the plunge sometime soon.

yeah... YDL is great for media.. there's VLC and Mplayer (after enabling the correct repositories), and so far they play everything (though 8GB h.264  blu ray rips are stuttery..)

I just picked up motorstorm tonight (used) after playing the demo to death.. lol... great game.

I only own oblivion, motorstorm and resistance.  I'm determined not to buy PS3 games that already exist for xbox 360, unless there's an obvious advantage to the PS3 version.  Oblivion might be a more subtle distinction, but I'm such a fan of the game (I already own the PC and Xbox 360 versions, along with most expansions) that it was worth buying the PS3 version...

grabbed a 250GB external drive the other day (on sale for 80 bucks.. 7200RPM, 8ms seek time) and am using it for PS3 storage.  My only complaint is that PS3 won't recognize NTFS... so my larger-than-4GB HD rips can't be stored on the FAT32 external drive.

I agree that the PS3 is an extremely powerful console but I could never spend that much money on a console that doesn't have any good games I like. Also, the graphics may be good but I think there is a point where the graphics don't really need to be any better.

I've noticed a similar trend with the PSP... I honestly could be counted amongst the naysayers, but I bought a PSP recently simply for PS1 emulation... and while it's true the official firmware is kinda terrible for the PSP, the hardware itself is amazing, and there really are some great games for it if people would give it a chance...

<_< Still prefer my DS... but the PSP is quickly gaining just because there are so many great apps for it... Not that the DS doesn't mind you, but there is only so much you can do with the more limited DS hardware.

sonicwind

the psp only has all those great apps because they have no regular games to play on it   .  If i picked one up the only official games I would play would be lumines and metal gear solid.
And with the ps3 they just did such a bad job with first impressions, they really didn't give themselves a chance to get on there feet.  Just look at the British launch.  1 week after and sales are already down 82% and is sitting on shelves while nintendo and microsoft milk this sony flop.

The price needs to come down and soon. I don't care how good the graphics are or even how many good games there are. No game system is worth $600 to me and it looks like I'm not alone in this.

Agreed. I won't be getting one until hits around two hundred. A playstation console just isn't worth more than to me. There's not enough games on those consoles that I enjoy, to warrant paying full price.
Setup:
White Lite
Slot 1: CycloDSx2GB Kingston Japan, Supercard DSOne+1GB Nokia(J), 16G G6 DS Real, 16G DS-Linker, R4x1GB Kingston(J),
Slot 2: G6 Lite
PSP: 3.40 OE-A

lol this thread is becoming a repeat of some threads on maxconsole...

Well I gotta agree though. Right now the PS3 is just an over priced XboX 360. 99% of the games on the PS3 are on the XboX 360 and look just as good, and in some cases better on the 360. Why would anyone would spend $600 on a console that has the same games and graphics as a $300 console is beyond me. I think the PS3 may be good down the line when the price drops and they come up with some new exculsives, but right now the Wii360 combo is pure gold.

I guess the 360 just doesn't satisfy the "gadget junkie" side of me.  maybe that's at the core of the bitter disagreement that people have, over the value of the PS3.  Maybe other people are like me, and are thoroughly impressed with the hardware itself, and the flexibility of the platform.

I agree, if you look at it from a gaming perspective, it's totally overpriced right now (i admit that, even though I grabbed one)... :)
