Hi,
I just downloaded the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time / Mater Quest iso.  It came in a .gcm file, and it was 1.35gb.  So I renamed it to .iso, and then I burned it to a disk as an image.  But it doesn't work.  Is it that that iso doesn't work?  The file is bad, or did I do something wrong?

PM me if you want the source of my download and if you need that info to help me.

Hah. I was JUST reading up on this a few hours ago. Quite the coincidence. Keep in mind that I don't actually have my Wii yet so this is all untested theory on my part, but it sounds right. I'll just paste the info I got. Credit goes to some dude named Dead Rabbit:

"The game files come in .gcm with the garbage wiped to keep the size down (better than 10GB!) you have two options, you could make single iso's by adding garbage (using FSTFIX) then renaming the file to .iso (from .gcm)

or

You could make a multiboot DVD with Multiboot iso creator (Viper bios ONLY at the time of writing this)

I have also included a garbage wiper to reduce size again after you have played about (GCM Utility)
and GC TOOL to rename / edit the DOL."

So you need something called FSTFIX and maybe GCM Utility.

What I want to know is what percentage of games take well to being put on a multidisc.

Hey, thanks so much, that's some quick reply!

FSTFIX is a really valuable tool. I was gettin DRE's all the time before I started using it.

to save any hassle just burn them with IMGBURN freeware burn tool it supports standard and non standard cube images  :)

sneef

save what hassle?

anyways, with gamecube images, any burning app that supports ISO images should be fine.  but, as mentioned earlier, FSTFIX can really help.  If you are using full-sized media (if you have a replacement case for GC that supports full-size dvd-r), use the -g option in fstfix (i think it's -g).  it will fill an additional 1.5GB or so on the DVD, which can help the laser's tracking at the outer edge of the data.   Gamecube discs are read from the outside edge, and end at the inside edge, which is opposite a standard data DVD.  Sometimes the laser has issues reading 1.4GB images burned on full-size 4.7GB DVD-R.

FSTFIX is a very nice tool.

best combination for gamecube games: Pioneer 1XX (109, 110, etc) with Ritek G05 (or mini-DVD G04's).  NEC 3520 burners are known to be good as well.

Ah. Does the issue reading larger discs apply to the Wii in GC mode as well? And are good ol' TY discs good for the Wii?

The Wii can play GC games off full size dvd's. No need to use the small ones.

@754boy & Sneef, i just got fstfix but i thought it was only for expanding shrunk GC games, what do you guys use it for? also how did it stop your dre's?

@sneef, did you go with the cylcowiz? If so, do you like it? I went with the wiikey.

I just rename the GCN to ISO, burn with Nero.  Seems to do the trick.

The multiboot DVDs on the modded Wii are the BOMB.
