What will happen to this site if the supercard goes under?

Hi

Well, though the slot-2 supercards are good, most people are going for slot-1 cards, and I don't blame them. And though I think the scdsone is good, it seems that the supercard is in trouble. The R4 is stealing all the business from the supercard.

So, what will happen to this site. An answer I think I might get is "Don't worry, we'll always be around to help the people that still have supercards." That may very well be true. (Or may not.) However, a forum is nothing without people posting in it. It doesn't matter whether the site is still around, it matters whether people stay on the site.

I love this site. It's the first Forum I ever joined. You can imagine this was a bit of a big step. Now, I've joined many forums, but I still like this site the most.

There are other sites, such as gbatemp, but this is still a place where a lot of smart people come. It's also a place where a lot of noobs who just need some assistance and don't know much come for help.

But if the supercard goes under, what will happen to this site. I've already said that I love this site, and now I'm worrying for it. Seriously, if people stop buying supercards, will they continue to come to the unofficial supercard site. I think not. So what's going to happen?

This is a well balenced place. Helpful people who are nice to eachother, and new people who need help. Honestly, I'm not sure there is another site quite as well balenced as this one. I just don't get the same feeling from gbatemp as I do here.

So, what will happen?

Well the site will remain even if it's like the irc room and me, NT, and Ratx are the only ones talking to one another, lol. I had tossed the idea around to Socket in the past about opening a new site that isn't pegged down to one product but he seemed to not be interested. I guess things will continue to slow to a halt around here but well still be here.

Think about it this way: there are still forums for games that have been forgotten nearly by the entire video game population.  I don't think this forum will go down if the supercard dies.  Heck, I don't even have a supercard and still love this site!

And, Slot 1 cards will NEVER replace Slot 2 cards.  Slot 2 cards have:

-RAM
-GBA Support
-GBA Homebrew Support

A Slot 1 card doesn't.  I don't think it is possible to put that on a slot 1 card.  (Not sure about the ram)

Supercard will never die, don't worry about it ;)

Just because of one bad generation of Supercard carts won't break the Supercard line.  I'm sure they'll come back next generation with a winner.  I still think Supercard is the way to go, their support is unparalleled.  I just sent a cart back, after I bought it from a shop in China, brought it back to Canada, and found out it was defective.  They were willing to replace it.  Talk about support!

Nah. My supercard SD has aspects that annoy me. My EZ-5 is nice, but has aspects that annoy me. There's no way you could get me to give up my supercard even with all the bells and whistles my EZ5 bundle has. So I think they'll be around for a while. And even if Supercard headquarters exploded tomorrow we'd still be here ad we'd still have our carts right? :)

I agree. This is definitely one of the most mature gaming forums around.

There needs to be competition in the flash card department [like with all markets, really]. SC really needs to survive.
If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

Hi

But will it? I mean, at first I thought "If the scdsone doesn't sell, romman will be smart and make a better slot-1 card right?" However, romman has confirmed that he will not be doing this.

Of course the supercard needs (well, wants anyway) to servive. But will it? I'm not sure I see how. I mean, maybe what MagickCrafter and others are saying is true, but yet it seems almost everyone is buying slot-1 cards, not slot-2's.

I totally agree.
SCone needs a firmware update or in other words a fresh clip of ammo! :)

Anyways, this forum is definitely a winner if I had to choose between it and another homebrew/dev forum.

Are sales of the slot 1 Supercard really that bad? Why? Is the R4 just that much better?

Hi

Persied, I think the problem may be that the R4 is just cheaper, not that the scdsone is bad.

I was just thinking, do you all think a firmware update could make the sc shine again? What possible feature do you think could be added to make the sc start running in a race against the R4? Maybe we could even tell romman our ideas since I'm sure he's not happy with how the scdsone has been doing.

I've got to say, with perfect rom capibility, a great interface, and perfect homebrew support with the all-new didi, what features could be added to the scdsone to make it better? I don't think that cheat support romman is talking about will make all the diffrence. Yet, if the card had the special cheat feature and many other special features, I think the card could compete with, and maybe even beat the mighty R4.

The only true R4 advantage over Supercard One, is a Better firmware suport..

Supercard is a great hardware but Romman software crew is kinda lazy recently

and this site is growing bigger and bigger ..

We are not only supercard users but we are GBA, and DS Users with a lot flashcards.. and one time o other scdev will become a big community for all flashcards..

Scdev is great becouse the users.. not because the Supercard.. it was only a reason to start it!

MagickCrafter said it the best.

I don't have a Supercard either, nor have I ever wanted one, or probably ever will want one. But this is the "flashcart site" that I visit the most. There's good people around, that give great advice.

So if the Supercard dies, it won't matter to me, at all. I'll still visit everyday, just like I'm sure almost everyone else will.

So like you mentioned in your first post Hi, I wouldn't worry about it.
