Nyko Wiimote Charge Station Review

I got this and LOVE it. It is a set of replacement rechargeable batteries for the Wiimote. It comes with 2 rechargeable battery packs for 2 Wiimotes and cost $30. The unit also comes with 2 battery replacement covers for the battery compartment and they have a rubber grip on them that is super nice. Here is the complete feature list:

    Charge 2 Wii remotes simultaneously
Includes 2 rechargeable NiMH battery packs
       LED Charge Indicator lights
       Dual port rapid recharging dock
       6 foot power cable
Rubberized battery covers for superior gaming performance
The only 2 small draw backs is 1: it's not usb so you have to plug it into a wall socket instead of one of the Wii's usb ports. 2: The Wiimote's strap makes it where u have to position the Wimote on the charge exactly or else the strap will get in the way and prevent the batteries from making contact with the charger. It's not too big of a deal, you just can't drop the Wiimote in carelessly, you have to position them in there. The rubber grip on the battery cover is so good I just took the wrist strap's off the Wiimote's altogether and it sits in there with zero effort. There are also leds on the front that tell you when the unit is charging and when the Wiimote is fully charged.

I can't tell you how nice it is to have a rechargeable Wiimote and not have to go through a ton of batteries each month. I can't believe Nintendo did not make this a standard for the Wiimote or at least market their own version to sell.

According to Nyko's site you can get them at Wal-Mart, Target, BestBuy, Amazon.com, GameStop, EB Games, but I couldn't find one locally so I just ordered from Nyko's online store.

I had originally preordered mine on Amazon, but then they delayed my order, so I cancelled it, and not more than a week later I was walking around CircuitCity waiting for them to get done with another customer and found the Nyko Charge Station sitting on the shelf.  The first one I got had burnt wires straight out of the box (like they tested it and just packaged it anyways after it failed), so I returned it for another.

After all that, I finally have a Nyko Charge Station on my TV stand, and I haven't touched my Wii since (lack of time).  lol

Looks awesome, I get tired of having to find AA batteries in the middle of the night (needless to say, my other tv remotes have had their batteries pilfered long ago). How much does this thing cost?

popinadam

Ordered mine from Amazon just now, free shipping currently and no tax works for me! Hope i like them .. Sure I will though!

but... cant you just use rechargable AAs...... or is there a reason u cant?

popinadam

Rechargable AA batteries? Nah, I like to live my life to the extreme. That would just be too easy!

nice. I was actually thinking of getting one of these especially since they come with gripped handles.

But meh, I've got a couple of rechargeable 2500mah Energizer batteries and a super cool 15 minute charger :D

still looking for something to improve the grip though, but silicon wiimote gloves just stink and it makes it hard to press some of the buttons O_o

Cool to see a good review on this.  I'm only 2 points away from picking one up on the Gaming Lagoon.  One more good survey and it's on the way.  All that much better, 'cause it'll be free.  8)

The rubber handles plus being able to set it in it's recharger and pick it up and play whenever I want and knowing the rechargeables are actually charged make it worth the money to me.

I read somewhere that the battery cover for the Nyko system protrudes farther out the back of the Wiimote.  Does it give the Wiimote much of a different feel, or change the balance?

Gives it a better feel. The rubber grips make it feel and fit nicely in the hand. Nintendo should have seriously added this feature as standard to the Wiimote.

hey, apparently there are stand alone rubber covered battery covers also by Nyko. I'm getting me 4 of those :D
