Is an updatable cloned Wiikey worth it?

There are people selling cloned Wiikeys, and when asked about ability to update, they say it is fully updatable (no chip bricking) with the wiikey updates.

Could this be true? Anyone here with knowledge on electronics and such (or this matter specifically)?

There haven't been any wiikey updates as yet so nobody knows.

If a chip is a true clone, then there will be no difference.

any firmware update for anything always has a possibility of getting bricked. i remember bricking my xbox and having to borrow my friends x2 to reflash the firmware/bios.

The WiiKey is a pretty simple chip so it is possible to make a 1:1 copy that would then be updateable. The people selling them can't know that, though, since, like ratx said, there have been no updates to test.

mine was a clone and 11 USD..so i'd say it was worth it.  works fine with the 1.2 update.

1.2 base disc was/is not a Wiikey firmware update as stated before, it was/is a utility disc.
