Battery Solution for a DS Lite

Sup guys,

Wasn't sure where to go with this question, so I'll try here.

I've got a trip for the UK coming up soon. Flight is 16 hours.

I don't mind running my DS Lite on the lowest brightness settings, to get maybe 10-12 hours, but I know it won't make it 16 hours. I don't sleep on flights (I get to adjust to the time difference better if I sleep when it is night time at the new location).

Anyone got any good solutions to this? Short of buying another battery, charging that, and then switching batteries on the plane? I'd like to avoid fumbling with a screwdriver during the flight if possible.

I've got a week and a half before I go, hopefully I can find something to work for me before I leave.

I wouldn't suggest the "super batteries" sold on eBay and places like that.  Sometimes they give like 10 minutes of gameplay.  If you are lucky, you get a pack that is similar to the official one.

if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can make a usb charging cable for the ds (or just buy one) and then make a battery pack that connects though usb (ive seen cellphone chargers that u put AA's into it and then it allows you to plug the cellphone's usb cable in to charge if you need to purchase one)

Forget soldering irons just go here...

I have one of the AA ones and it works great especially nice when using a supercard lite and full brightness most the time =)

As far as the USB cord itself dont chance soldering something wrong and frying your system.  Buy the "Travel Power Pack" by Pelican it has a USB DS charger in it.  I know Best Buy sells it for $9 or Google for it online.  Looks like this...

Awesome, I'll see if I can't buy one of those after work tomorrow. Is it something like an external battery that you charge up, and then can hook up to your DS lite for more juice? That would work perfectly.

another tip is Play with NO SOUND  :)

this also prolongs battery life  :)

or at least have it fairly low if you cannot manage without   :)

how about getting that solar powered thing for the ds :P Then you wouldn't have to worry unless you are where I live...... rain doesn't generate sunlight >_<

Hi

Does that solar power thing actually work? That's a silly question, I mean, it's not fraud right. What I mean to say is, how fast does this thing recharge you nds under various conditions? Does it actually recharge it at a feasable pace?

The link I posted from thinkgeek earlier is for a battery box.  You just put regular AA or AAA in it depending on which box you buy.  Could get rechargable AA I suppose but never last as long it seems.

There IS a external battery there you can "charge up" as well but just like the solar panel its a bit pricey.

I also found this, the Thunder Power Pack.

And here's a review of it.

Seems like a decent solution for most people, and cheap. Works as advertised, says the review.

However, I ended up buying this instead, and using the USB cable from the Pelican Travel Pack. Thanks for the tip, the Pelican Travel Pack was a great deal, and came with the lil goodies I'm sure will be useful later on.

Not sure why their own website says it's $50, I found it for $40. I know it's a bit more than I wanted to spend on for just an extra battery solution, but I think this'll be handier for when I need to charge a laptop (that I don't own yet, but will soon) or my gf's Ipod or even my cell phone.

Anyways, thanks to everyone for the help, problem solved, and I'll be gaming all flight long. If you see the asian guy with spiky hair who won't go to sleep hunched over his DS Lite, say hi. =]
