Wondering if it is necessary to upgrade to flashme version 8a?

If you have a DSphat? If you have a DSlite? (this is to help out all

I was wondering the exact same thing.  Flashme 7 is doing its job...

Here's the changelog from the GBAdev thread:
QuoteChanges:

- Added audio cues to tell you when it's flashing.
- Removed MK2/3 booting code, because it was causing problems.
- Noflashme updated to fix issues with DS Lite.
- Made a "no autoboot" version that won't boot SLOT-2 unless A,B,X,Y are held.
The third and fourth points there are of particular interest.

He then also quickly updated it to v8a, with these changes:
QuoteOk, another update (v8a).

The recovery code can boot both slot1 and slot2 (it tries slot1 first, then slot2 if it can't find a card). I changed the recovery key combo to START+SELECT. If you're not sure if even the failsafe got flashed, power it up with start+select and no cards inserted. The power LED should blink if it's working.

The no-autoboot version now boots from slot-2 when SELECT is held (instead of A+B+X+Y).

EDIT:  just tried it myself and it seems to be fine, though my only complaint is that I can no longer get to the DS menu by holding Start+Select since that's now the failsafe combo.  =/

EDIT 2:  nvm, just hold Select while the DS is in "boot to the menu first" mode and it will get there.

Do you need to short SL1 to upgrade or is it like the old ones?

I mean during the upgrade, is it like olden times when you upgrade you don't need to short SL1 again or do you really have to short SL1?

dantheman

Yes, you will have to short it again to upgrade.  It is not like the other ones.  I had v7 installed and I had to short it before it would go up from 0%

My daughters dsphat is flashed, to go into normal ds screen she will have to do what now if i install normal version of 8?

dantheman

First eject all cartridges so you get the DS menu to begin with.  Then in the options change it so that it boots to the menu by default rather than autobooting.  With the Supercard in there FlashMe will still autoboot to the SC menu, but if you hold Select you can get to the DS menu, and from there you can launch a slot-1 game without having to eject anything.;

To be honest, I didn't really get any benefits to flashing with v8a, but I decided to do it to stay up-to-date.

sonicwind

we do it...............because we can

That's why I did it  :D

Keep in mind that with v8a, that has changed from ABXY to just Select.

what

just flashed mine to get rid of the autoboot. now I won't need to use that hacked sclite firmware

btw, I was wondering, can I use an sc mini rumble or an r4 instead to flash my ds? how different are they from using an sclite or minisd (which sadly mine died)
r4 DS
EZ2 256mb
Supercard Lite
Wii (us, Wiikeyed)
DS Lite Onyx (Flashme v8a stealth)
PSP Slim Piano Black (3.71 M33)
