compiled and flashable via a supercard?  i need to send my dslite back to nintendo to replace the cracked hinge.  flashme_stealth SHOULD be fine, but this would be better...alternately is there a noflashme made for the lite yet?

Devil_Spawn

search for noflashme, but be warned, there is no safety, if it does not finish then ur ds lite is bust

nusilver

i'm fully aware of noflashme, but isn't it based on the original ds firmware?  i.e., doesn't it cause problems with pictochat as well as remove the light level options of the ds lite?

I dont think the noflashme works for dslite. I would do a little searching on the site and also search gbatemp.net. I have seen this topic their also. You are probably better off installing flashme stealth version instead.

Gulp.  Well, i ran noflashme and it seemed to work fine...  Oops.

Does pictochat still work? I heard noflashme'ing a Lite destroys many DS functions.

Nintendo Wii - cIOS38 Revision 12 (and more)
Madden PSP Slim v5.00 M33-6

when i did the noflashme it just ruined pictochat (freezes with the grid on the screen) games played fine, i could use my superpass to use my flashcard, brightness worked fine just the picto was gone.

thanks everyone, especially socket, for providing me with a definitive answer.  i could care less if pictochat stops working because i'll be receiving a brand new unit anyway.

i have successfully noflashme'd a ds lite.  this is what i am left with.

ds games work.  tried a game on Nintendo WFC...works fine.
gba games work fine.
alarm clock works fine.
brightness levels work fine.
clicking the ds icon to change your system settings causes the system to crash, as does clicking the pictochat icon or the ds download play icon.

my system is going in to nintendo tomorrow for replacement due to a physical issue, so i don't see any reason why i wouldn't be getting a brand new system to replace this one.

also, for those considering sending nintendo flashed ds lites for replacement for whatever reason, there is a noticeable difference between the original ds firmware and the supposed 'stealth' version of flashme, at least on a ds lite.  flashme_stealth, first of all, causes a delay before the health warning pops up...also, the light fade-in is sort of a dead giveaway...even if you were to set your ds at the same brightness setting as the one flashme_stealth starts at, there'd still be that delay before the healthscreen.  and also, unless your screens were both completely white when you last shut your system off, there is a bit of a refresh problem when you first start your system up...as in, you'll see black trails of what was previously on the screen.

i'll let you all know what happens with nintendo. in the mean time, there's a second ds lite in this household...so back to ff3.

Wrong, their only going to replace the case which is like a 2 minute job. You just effed up your DSL and now your stuck with it, congrats.

socket

I highly doubt that you'd get the same DS back at all.

Care to explain why you and the thread starter would even think this?

The cracked hinge is a cosmetic defect, not an internal one which requires the hardware inside the case to be replaced. The shell of the DS is easily exchangeable. If his touch screen was broken or something to that effect, Nintendo would replace the whole unit. In his case, Im sure he already talked to a cs rep and the reason why he sent it in for repairs, not replacement is because of the cracked hinge.

I simply don't think you get the same one is all.  I can't imagine them not having a "pile" of refurbs to ship out when they get a "defective" unit in, no matter what the defect is.  They probably want to get them out asap, so I'm thinking they scan the serial number in, and ship a unit out to you for the fastest service possible... and even then, while it's already in transit, they can figure out how much it will cost you, etc... I don't have any evidence, or inside info, it's just the way i picture it.

I agree with socket. You'll most likely NOT be getting a new system, probably a refurbished one.
