Moonshell playing Divx directly (future possibility?)

okay, the reason this would be great is because I can't get any satisfactory results with the dpenc converter since I updated from moonshell .992.

>>With that version I could convert anything I wanted (extracting the audio stream first, making it *louder* and using .992 defrosted setting) worked with divx, mov, mkv etc...  with all the subsequent releases it's only stuttery video + audio and all sorts of problems (no matter what encoder settings I try)  *so* wouldn't it be easier, if we could have moonshell work with divx, xvid formats directly?  of course resizing to DS resolution would still be necessary to save on file size...

I don't want to impose anything on the programmers here, just asking if that is the ultimate goal...

I doubt that it will be possible, the DS's clock speed just isn't fast enough.

Just think about it, you need a computer with at least 500mhz to be able to play divx videos smoothly, I think the DS is just 66mhz.
I guess the only thing which would make it possible to play nicely encoded, high speed divx video on the DS would be a divx decoder chip built into a new version of supercard or other flash cart.

But I'd be pretty happy, if the coders prove me wrong.

its a pain in the ass to play a simple mpeg file.. Dvix?? impossible!

dbg is fine by me, still can't believe i got a 142MB .avi video(xvid,22mins) into a 41MB dbg file with great quality, the only issue is the damn sound going out of sync sometimes but apart from that is near perfect, hell following those numbers i could, theorically, put allmost the entire lord of the rings trilogi on my 1GB cf, still gonna try that hehe.
SC CF + 1GB Kingston CF + flashed NDS = a whole lot of fun.

As someone mentioned earlier... .999 was a test build. If it's not working well for you, simply switch back to .992.

well, I fixed my playback problems by setting the audio sample rate back to 3200 hz.  No stuttering any longer and very nice sound (with the bitrate cranked up).  Also, I have noticed that the kind of "rasterizing" effect during playback (looks like a mesh of black pixels that shadows some movements) goes *way* up if the framerate is set higher! It practically disappears at 8 frames, but that's a little too jerky for me  :D
