I recently brought the Superpass 2.  I Connect the programer to the back of the pc to the printer port and usb port.  insert the SP2.  switch is down.  On my home pc I get error message about playxsvf501b.exe.  on my sister's pc i get a plain message of error.  my father's pc says hardware not connected/SP2 switch open.

I have tried downloading the files from darkfader but that didnt work either.

anyone got any advice?

I've seen a few people have this problem. I can't say I know the cause, but maybe with a bit of snooping around, we can find a solution.

If you're using WinXP, the window that pops up should have two options. If I remember correctly, they're just Send or Don't send to report the problem to microsoft. This isn't what we're looking for.

There should be a link (I think) in the text in the window to show the details of the error. Could you (or anyone else having this problem) show the details of this error? It's possible that this might give a little more insight in to the problem.

Just as an FYI, the "playxsvf" is the part that is supposed to program a chip in the Superpass. I'm thinking at this point that it's a software related conflict, but that doesn't help much.

I have this error on three PC's and one PC that just throws the harware not connected/switch not flipped, etc. error.

It USED to work on the other three PC's, but something seems to conflict with the software.  I am wondering if it is possibly Norton Systemworks 2006 Pro (antivirus?  Ghost?).

Does the PC you get this error on have Norton AV 2006 installed or systemworks on it?  I'm just trying to eliminate possibilities because that is the ONLY software I am aware of that was installed on my wife's laptop between Christmas when I could program a SuperPass 2 and now when I get the "playxsvf501b.exe has thrown an error" message.

I even disabled all AV features to no avail, etc. but I have not tried to uninstall it to see if that solves the conflict issue.

well i dont have any anti virus but i do have tons of apps installed
perhaps i should tak another hard drive and fresh install windows xp sp2 into it and then try to see what happens

I will post results later today

mjmattson

I would be very interested to know what your results are.

wgz4life

ok, with a fresh copy of windows XP Home edition, I installed the superpass 2 software.  no problems so far.  connect the programer, and super pass.   click on a any game(i clicked on yoshi)  and i get not connected/sp2 switch open

mjmattson

are just not compatible with many printer ports?

Interesting though that the Windows software error vanished.  If you are going to re-install apps, can you install, then check the SuperPass II software to see which might be causing the conflict?

wgz4life

well i dont plan on install anything else since the harddrive is way too small.  I also tried Windows 2000 and i got the same results

Hard to say how many ports it does/doesn't work with.

As I mentioned before, it would be helpful if someone could tell me the more detailed information from the error they get. This is done by clicking a link in the window instead of clicking on the send/don't send buttons of the error window.

Clicking the link expands the error a bit, which might prove more useful than the generic error that's being reported right now. (The link is called "details" or something similar. I wish I could remember exactly what the link is called, but I don't.. And google wasn't helpful.)

seems that problem is that windows isnt registing the component.  I notice that the setup adds something to the registry.  This is where the problem can be.  Im going to scan my registy and see with what i can come up with

mjmattson

That would be nice if we could just manually register the component.

I can tell you what it adds. Part of the install includes a device driver. That driver installs a couple of entries in to the registry at these points:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet###\Services\WinDriver6

(Note: I have both ControlSet001 and ControlSet002.)

These entries control how WinDriver6 runs as a service.

I may be wrong, but I would think that if this program wasn't running, you'd be getting another error entirely.

As for the Kernel32.dll error, that complicates things. If anyone getting the error is familar with MSCONFIG, I'd try booting with no startup and see if that helps at all.

wgz4life

I download jungo's windriver and it fixed my original problem.  I no longer that windows' error.  I now get Hardware not found, which now make me believe that the problem lies in the actual programer/superpass2.
