SCDS1 or EZ V

Hey guys,

I'm going to order me another flash cart. And the SCDS 1 and EZ V are the only two slot 1's I don't have yet. So it's between those two.

And i'm kinda leaning towards the DS One. But the first versions got pretty bad reviews, and i heard they were just crap. But now i hear these newer version 2's are much better. Is this true? Does every game work on this newer version? Of course I'm going to be using a Japan made microsd, so i'm not going to get any lockups right?

Also, what features can only be used when patching the rom with a computer patcher? I guess i'm asking if i have to patch the rom with a computer patching app to use any features like soft reset, cheats, game guides, etc. Or does the cart patch the rom on the fly for these options to be used?

Oh, and can you use multiple skins on this cart like the R4?

I think that's all the questions i have. If there are any other cool features that this cart has that I didn't mention, please, let me know. I heard this cart has more features than other.

Thank you for any info.

if you want to use features like cheats, slow motion, guides and reset then yes you have to patch them. However i wouldnt recomend any of those. and yes the ver2 is way better really good actually. but you should go for and R4 its better and only 32 with free shipping in http://www.dealextreme.com
especially since you got and ez4 these 2 are perfect combinations.

Was it more of a software issue with the V1 SCDS One as I have a V1 running latest software and have no problems ?

I had a Supercard DS ONE v1, and I was very unsatisfied for many reasons.  The first reason, it corrupted one of my precious Kingston 1GB MicroSD cards (before DealExtreme sold them), the second reason, it couldn't run quite a few of my roms for some odd reason, the third reason, it got stuck in my DS Lite, and couldn't come out until I got tweezers to pull them out, and the fourth reason, it was a manufacturing defect, and the final reason, after repeated returns, I get more defected Supercard DS ONEs.

However, I am going to rereview the cart as ModMyDS.com has kindly sponsored our site again by giving us a Supercard DS ONE v2 to review.  It seems that everyone is pleased with the cart, so it deserves a second chance.

I don't have a SC DC but I do have an EZ-5 and an R4 and wile the R4 is better the EZ-5 does have its unique strengths, and IMO the biggest one is the fact that the patcher can compensate for slow SD cards. As in, if you have a slow 2GB microSD like I do and Castlevania POR won't work all you have to do is patch the game and it will suddenly work at speed no freezing. I'm not sure exactly how it does that but its nice.

It also has better support for the 3-in-1 expansion than the hacks for the other carts do: No save problems(that I've seen). No limits on GBA game size. No need to patch Opera.

On the other hand you have to set the saver size using a .lst file. It's updated regularly and there are programs you can use to add roms yourself but that's annoying. Loading and saving are also quite slow.

I can't help but to say that you have it dead on.  It is exactly how I feel, except I couldn't really put it into words.

Yeah, I've already got an R4. And eventhough I think it's a pretty good cart, I want more features. And eventhough my G6 Real and CycloDS has some nice features that no other carts have, I keep reading that the DS One is the most featured filled cart. So i went ahead and ordered it yesterday.

And as for patching, the cart patches the rom on the fly for those features to work, or does the rom have to be patched before it goes on the cart? I'm still unsure about this.

But...I'm also going to order the EZ V this weekend because that new loader is looking quite amazing.

I read that there's a Quit, or Stop, button on the new loader. This isn't going to be able turn off the DS will it? If not, I wonder what it's for.

Anyways, thanks for all the great info guys. I really appreciate it.

Not patching on the fly, but a computer program that patches the rom.  That is if you want special features.  This is true for both the EZV and the Supercard DS ONE.

Actually one of the buttons does turn off the DS for the EZV.

Wow, that kind of sucks you have to patch the rom on the computer to get a feature such as soft reset. That's kind of lame since just about every other flash cart offers this in it's firmware.

I don't think softreset is one of the features from patching, if I remember correctly from Supercard, it is the cheat functions and real time instructions, for the EZV the new loader will have soft reset from the firmware.  EZV patcher is merely to enhance compatibility and up the speed for slower MicroSD cards.

Sweet. That the new loader for the EZ V sounds pretty nice. I'm definitely ordering one.

And here is one more question for the SCDS 1: Does the real team guide mean the actual game manual, or does it mean a game guide that you find on a site like Gamefaqs?

Real Time Guide, if it is like the old GBA version is basically your own, they let you choose your own text file.  So for all they care, you can put an ebook in there and whenever you have your DS and your friends ask you what you're doing, you can say I'm reading.  :)

h8uthemost

Wow...so if you're playing a game, and you get to a puzzle that you can't quite figure out, you can just hit the Hotkey combo and bring your game guide up? That is a very nice feature. Not that I use guides that much, at all. But sometimes there's always that extremely tough part in a particular game that you can't seem to figure out. This will come in very handy.

Thank for the great help, as usual Pharaoh.

I found the guide (in the GBA version) quite annoying, the scrolling wasn't too great (which shouldn't be true for the DS version), and more annoying yet was the font.  You couldn't choose the font or the color, they give you this black background and green text with the most standard font in the world.  I believe this is true in the DS version as well, but I'm not 100% sure.  The real problem comes in when you have the guides that give pictures of places with slashes, dots, etc, they get messed up and instead of a clear picture, you just get pages and pages of useless stuff.

However, I do still love the feature in the GBA version, just keep in mind the limitations, you no longer have maps and things like that.

Anyways, no problem about the help.
