I've just got a refurbed unit from nintendo, it all works fine but switches itself off during New Super Mario Bros.

I'm using an R4 (v1.10) with trimmed rom and cheats enabled (access all worlds). All other games seems to be ok, and it does not switch off on another ds.

I'll probably be returning this unit but before i do that, has anyone heard of this issue? Thanks

maby try a different version of the same rom :)

0434 US works fine for me  :)

yeah, i've tried that, i've even tried flashing this new unit.

the only thing i could fathom is the cheat mode. all other games have no cheats applied and they work fine,. to throw a spanner in the works, it only happens on this particular ds.

Does it happen when it's plugged in? Regardless, you might want to try a different battery as the DS will shut off if the battery is faulty.

i'll give it a try, it's certainly one of the older batteries (i've noticed the newer ones have rubber around the sides)

well i received yet another ds and still have problems. instead of switching off it just freezes at some point, it's even hapenning on some other games.

still got a few more things to try. will be defragging the memory card and installing flashme v8 later tonight. :)

mudlouse1

rargh, did a defrag and moved a few files on the microsd card.

things seem ok so far (no crashes), perhaps the index system couldn't keep up since the files were so defragmented ???

Defragging a memory card doesn't do much good, as it just takes a long time and creates many writes to the card.  A better method would be to copy everything off, format, and copy everything back, as this defragments the files by default.

So what if it writes to the card. I thought SD cards had more writes than you could ever need, unless you use the card as virtual memory or something.

True, but it still seems silly to take the risk, right?  Doing the copy+reformat+recopy trick takes just as much time as defragging anyway.
